I find it helpful to know the strongest arguments by partisans on both sides. As helpful as listening to NPR and conservative AM radio. This way I feel my decisions are more informed, and I can hold meaningful conversation with folks with all views who I come across in my daily life. If you don't come across a variety of folks in your life, and/or don't value having conversations with folks with a variety of ideas I feel like you're missing out on a big part of life and potentially helpful ideological mediation in your own soul.

I agree with you in principle. I have friends from all side of the political and societal spectrum. I can have civil meaningful discussions with all of them that don’t break down into name calling. For the most part that is the rarity in the WR. Do you really think SD is the place gauging the best arguments on a subject though? Many of the threads here start from a place of dishonesty. That’s not to mention the go to argument of the WR being whatabout (insert partisan deflection)?

Good stuff. I find most threads that aren't started from a cheap, lazy, accusatory place are quite illuminating. Even if the first page (or pages, now that post count per page is limited ) are cheap, lazy, accusatory replies (go figure "ya get what ya give" and all) the depth of the thread can recover if it's a serious topic that might affect us, with many posters continually updating with new info or anecdotes from many different sources.

Yeah, the breadth of the remainder can get pretty big unfortunately, but ever since the "megathread" concept started getting used more it's not as bad as it was.

Yep and it's why they disappear once you post the definitions of the words they're attempting to play linguistic games with.
