Training of Erik Morales:

"5'10 going for 155"... KK, if you're aiming for a MMA weight class, but dabble in a bit of pro boxing as well, would you be fighting at Jr middle or cutting down to welter?

For the record, I'm just under 6' (about 5'11" and 1/2) fighting at 152, but usually show up on fight day now abround 146-148.

Standard, that'd be awesome if you got into training at my gym, man. I take a group of guys out every morning for roadwork (stair sprints, mileage distance work, sprints and occasionally intervals/conditioning drills), one MMA guy, an air cadet guy and one new boxer so when you're back in the area you're more than welcome to come along.

For Boxing I'd shoot for Welter. I could easily pull it off with a day or two in a sauna. But I'm trying to at least maintain 155. I'm walking around between 158 and 160 currently and just started doing 2-a-days again.

I got my eye on that wide-open UFC Lightweight division though.

It depends on who you're fighting. If you gain ten lbs as a Welterweight to fight a Middleweight, then no. Because the Middleweight will be naturally bigger.

Reason why i ask this, is i have heard a theory that if u strengthen the muscles on your neck, u will decrease the whiplash effect after you recieve a punch. Thus improving your chin.

So i assume since bigger guys have bigger necks and heads they are less likely to get knocked out by a punch that would knock out someone smaller?

I dont know, it might not be completely true, but it is the case most of the time.

Rossboxing has an article on it. and he made some interesting points in favor of what i typed..

There's plenty of thick-necked guys with garbage chins. One thing doesn't have a whole lot to do with the other.
