Just watched my UFC 43 dvd. Even though Pedro Rizzo would finish Telligman, I was supremely impressed by his stand up. His hands and boxing fundamentals looked better than the majority of current 185-265lb guys.

He threw a nice, smooth jab, good cross, tight hooks. He looked really relaxed and comfortable on the pocket. He managed distance decently, but not great. And most of all he had some good broken rhythm going. There was one instance where he broke rhythm and instantly stabbed Pedro's face with either 2 or 3 straight punches. He also rocked and dropped Pedro in the beginning of the fight.

Tra had a mediocre record but he fought some great guys. Even though I had the DVD afterwards I couldn't believe that he would outwork Igor V at pride 12.

Tl;dr Tra had excellent hands and boxing fundamentals for his time and place in mma. Dude was a warrior and came with some surprises

tra beat igor vovchanchyn. he’s clearly the best heavyweight of all time

Honestly I was never a fan... His best highlights are his losses.

Love the variety of the old days and he is a big part of that, but he was boring as hell to watch.

Added a pic to OP just for you baby! Freaky looking I know, but the dude could throw down. Sucks he's mostly known for getting headkicked by Timmeh and losing to Rizzo twice. I feel like his W over Igor doesn't get enough credit. It wasn' terribly exciting, but it was a clear W

I believe he "dieded" against Tim "Maine-iac" Sylvia.

Boogie man, please watch his fight with Rizzo from UFC 43. His boxing looked sharp af, and it was an exciting fight

Edit: I agree he wasn' super exciting in general. His best win is not really an exciting fight either. You don't have to be a fan to respect the guy.

He makes a couple appearances in The Reem documentary.
Seems like he's doing pretty well, and turned out to be a chill, happy guy.

That's the first fight I saw Trauma in.

From those days I thought Townsend Saunders looked super promising. But he couldn't transition into MMA well enough. Had he been with the right camp he could have been something.

Wasn't he involved with Chuck norris's WCL? I know Guy Mezger was, but i thought I remembered Tra popping in and out too.

I'm glad he's doing well. Lots of guys from his era of mma aren't off too great.

One of the first gatekeepers, but he always put up a great fight.

I respect the guy a lot, I said I have love for all of those guys, even if I rooted against some of them... He's just one of the guys I rooted against because you knew that if he won it was just going to be a very long, stiff fight. Technical boxing yes, but he had a Holly Holm esque stick, stifle and move style that I hated then and I still do now... He never got a KO, which at Heavyweight against weak opposition is poor.

Yes, he was a pioneer and i respect him, but no I was not a fan of his work.

liked watching him fight back in the day. However I was freaked out when I thought Tim Silvia actually killed him with that kick.

I had a hard time watching him fight. I just felt like all it would take is one good hard punch in that area to kill that guy.

I think I agree with every word you said. I still repeat though, rewatch his rematch with Rizzo, and then you've probably seen his best all around performance and excitement level.

On the whole though, you'e right. Not too exciting. His losses are, but he wasn't a KO machine himself. Clay Guida is another guy who is always exciting in a loss. Usually pretty "meh" in his wins (except than Lauzon fight!)
