Plus he lost to guys that were supposed to be layups for him.He was certainly a championship level fighter, he was able to beat several former champ. But he just couldn't get it done when he had his shot.
He was in the UFC for 10 years and only managed to get 1 title shot, which is very rare for an elite fighter at HW considering it's a thinner division. I think that the time after he beat Lesnar where he went 1-3 hurt his chances to get title fights. That was the time that he was hyped up and would have been easy to get a title shots, but he just lost. After the division had more contenders so he needed a few more wins.
I mean it was more of a recovery thing.Overeem never got a UFC belt because his chin is made from Fine China.

He would get hit and not be able to recover in time, rather than going out like a light
his head is mad small bro.
TINY
Plus he lost to guys that were supposed to be layups for him.
Stipe and his ghost hand is what truly stopped him.
He beat Paul Buentello for the belt and then defended it one time, about 3 years laterHe was the king of Strikeforce at a time when their heavyweight division was better than the UFC's.
let’s be honest—just ufcStill doesnt count.
UFC or PRIDE only
Hardly the case in kickboxing.
No it wasnt, Even though he lost 2 out of 3 that guy was very entertaining and def alot more interesting than MVP
also at least he lost spectacularly and not just boringly outclassed over 3 rds
Same thing would happen when he would go on the defensive. Most of the times he'd just shell up and wait for the other guy to back off. With boxing gloves it works, but with mma gloves...His fight IQ was an issue also imo.
Sometimes he would use his grappling at odd times and then just get back up and start striking, like he was just doing takedowns just to do them and not for any strategic advantage or finish
