Toyota's US Headquarters Is Moving..

This is funny:

Renting a 10' uhaul to go from San Diego to Dallas costs $1500.

The same truck to go form Dallas to San Diego runs $800.

The more expensive direction means they don't have enough customers going the other way to bring the trucks back.

California.. what a shitty state. Good thing they're going from a "may issue" state to a "shall issue" state, though. I bet Feinstein has been crying herself to sleep lately.

Our Governor, What's his name, He wants your Job in Texas.

Here in Plano we see the effects of this general move to Texas. House prices jumped 20% in the last year after 10 years of being the same.

Toyota HQ has what kinds of positions: accountants, paper pushers, salespeople, account managers, HR, payroll, a few executives maybe? All that stuff can actually be done from home over the interwebz. You can even conference over the interwebz.

Do they have design studios, manufacturer, proving grounds, labs there as well? Where is all that stuff done anyways, Japan?

Definitely sucks. All the major Los Angeles companies have been getting decimated for years. We used to be the central location for all Asian carmakers' North American subsidiaries. But Nissan moved to Tennessee a few years back. Hyundai is based in OC. Now Toyota is moving. Honda is all that's left, and I won't be surprised to see them move soon enough.

Illinois isn't much better. My company is in the process of being sold and I'm wondering if the buyer is going to want to move the company (assuming they aren't from Illinois) because our corporate tax rate is so high.

It'll be interesting because there is a heated tax battle in the governors race right now. If Quinn stays in office everyone will keep paying a five percent income tax (as opposed to the 3.75 percent that it was) and corporate tax will remain at 9.5 percent (instead of going back down to 7.5). The GOP candidate says he would let the temporary tax increase expire in 2015.

All punishment for businesses and residents because our state politicians are most useless fucking people on the planet.

Why is everything a 2nd amendment issue with you, dude?

What is the problem that needs to be fixed? What does anyone give a shit where Toyota's U.S. HQ are?

People who work there i would assume. Maybe people in Cali believe it is a trend. Losing buisness to another state obviously isnt going to help their economy.

They lose business to other states, get business from other states, lose business to failure, gain business from new companies, etc. The beat goes on. What is the alternative to that? Net job growth has been positive.

I love your postings on econ issues bro. I really do. Just when I start to get down on the US economy due to some conservative hyperbole you lay the smack on them with the truth. So with that Ill ask you a question. Are companies really sending jobs from Cali to Texas like everyone thinks? Is this an issue like everyone thinks? Thanks Bro.

You are right. Everything is absolutely perfect, an there is no need to even consider improving because it is impossible.

Jobs don't actually move out of or into states very much. Hard to get more recent data on it, but from 1992 to 2006, an average of 25,000 jobs left CA to other states per year, and 16,000 came to CA from other states. That's in a state with about 19 million jobs. So it's pretty much a non-issue.

WTF?

WTF are you talking about? Of course people care. Anyone living in LA ... like myself ... doesn't like to see their city turn into Detroit-the-lesser. This state is losing its middle class at a rapid-fire rate, turning into a haven for wealthy elites and their permanent servile underclass. Losing Toyota was bad enough, but it comes on the heels of losing Occidental, which is brutal.

This city is fucked. And that's just a microcosm of California as a whole.

Aren't you supposed to be a progressive of some stripe? Why are you hailing the victory of social segregation and corporate tax avoidance? Texas rising is synonymous with your ideals dying.

Btw of course the jobs leave state. One of my best friends was a lawyer for Nissan, and he left to Tennessee with Nissan. Hasn't come back. And these are high-paying high-quality jobs. What's left is increasingly parasitic and dysfunctional. Yeah, people who aren't mobile may stay, but to do so they have to choose among increasingly shitty job options.

Honestly it's depressing to think I have so much invested in Los Angeles real estate.
