Social Toy Collectors Thread

I've been a super nerd my entire like but I've never understood the adult fascination for expensive collectable toys.

I've never owned a toy I didn't play into the ground, but I stopped getting them when I was a kid.

I find that the style and presentations are just amazing. I've loved toys since I was a kid and while I had to put it on the back burner when I was pursuing my military career, I can now pursue my hobby and increase my collection. :)

I've been buying stuff I would have loved to have as a kid, but I don't spend hours lying on the bed having M.U.S.C.L.E. pro wrestling battle royales or similar anymore. I just open, wash, put into a tub. Vast majority not opened yet. I'm realizing I need to be more selective due to space. Haven't really looked into what modern day Transformers I'd like. Haven't yet built at least 2.5 gunplas already bought.

Cutting back on small stuff like Hot Wheels too. I recently saw a nice modern Mustang in flat matte blue and never ever saw any Hot Wheels in that flat paint before. Looked really good, but passed and might buy if I saw it again.

Probably the most expensive stuff I bought was SHF DBZ, but limited to Goku, Trunks, and multiple Vegetas due to his multiple costume changes in the Namek Saga.

I was about to recommend Testor's Model Master Liquid Plastic Cement, but when looking for a link it turns out they no longer make it with the precision needle tip applicator. Bummer. That was one of the main selling points.

Tamiya Extra Thin is also supposed to be really good but only comes in a brush-cap, though I'd take the brush-cap over the cheesy plastic end the new Testors bottles come with.

And avoid the old school metal tube cements all together, they're a bitch to control where, and how much, cement gets applied.

I used up one bottle of Tamiya Extra Thin and fumes were too fooking potent, so next bottle was Tamiya Extra Thin Limonene which is made of orange peel and seems to weld the polystyrene ok and able to pry apart if mistake without too much damage. Might not melt the plastic as quickly as regular Tamiya Extra Thin. It's supposed to work via whatever that word is for capillary action where you hold the pieces together and drop a tiny droplet and it then instantly runs down the seam line because it's so thin. I think there are youtube vids on how it works. I think some Amazon sellers might not ship it due to restrictions.

At Target, saw two copies of SHF Dragon Ball Daima chibi Vegeta which is tiny. No idea on price, but if $35, that's too high.

I bought my son a Tamiya RC car for Christmas and surprisingly enjoyed the build process. So I bought myself a Hornet and finally finished it todayView attachment 1078691View attachment 1078692View attachment 1078693

Nerd !!! x

Wish me luck guys , I'm visiting a friend ( also a nerd) in a nearby hospital on Thursday it looks like if he doesn't get discharged before then .

The city he's staying in has a huge sports shop , two comic book shops ( one old comics , one new stuff that does ML, etc) , a gaming shop that sells ML and MOTU, a LEGO shop , a second hand dvd/games/ blu ray place and another shop that does Stranger things , SW, Pokémon and similar.

I mean as he's a nerd too I'll have to visit all these places to pick him up something to lift his spirits, right ? Right ?

$29.99. Not my cup of tea though. I hated Batman and Robin, it was just soooo muuuuuccchh cheeeeeeeese.

Saw a tweet from Dan Yun saying something like high probability the Nemesis X-Men BAF wave won't be carried by Walmart and Target and I'm thinking that's what Hasbro gets for sticking the big retailers with figures of shit characters that won't sell. Two Walmarts here still have absolute tons of TVC Lando that they refuse to mark down for quite a few years it seems. One Walmart doesn't seem to carry GI Joe Classified at all after the retro Lady Jaye stockpiled there then clearanced for $5 each.

He's kind of a geek and he customised all of them. They're worth a lot of money now, I believe.
My Mrs has been teasing the fuck out of me. She told me it was very unattractive seeing me play with Toys and why don't I go for a ride on my motorbike. (I'm recovering from multiple knee surgeries so that's not an option)

Wishing you a full and speedy recovery. Hugs and kisses x

Went shopping today folks and popped to see that friend who managed to get discharged from hospital yesterday. Only took him over 4 weeks...

Anyway, you would have been ashamed of me, I'm sorry. I visited several shops and came home with no toys or collectibles. Nothing took my fancy at all .

I picked up a Doctor Who magazine/ yearbook for my friend along with the first installment of a Doctor Who build your own Dalek model thing and dropped it off to him .

On the positive side however I picked up 6 Marvel blu rays for a silly price to replace DVDs and I pay have acquired 6 Micronauts comics , 2 ROM comics , 3 Battlestar Galactica and 20 Conan comics , predominantly Marvel.

And my ML Beyonder and Titania have shipped today.

I still haven't satisfied my poster on metal stainless steel itch. Waiting for the right artwork.

Got my Secret Wars Wolverine, Jada Cammy. Pre-ordered black & yellow Xtreme(?) Wolverine and X-Factor blue & yellow Cyclops. Skipping the rest of that wave.

Got two metal artworks , the other one is the red cover of the D and D basic rule book with the guy fighting with the dragon. I suspect I'll pick up a couple more from the same place as he had some good ones .

If your Cammy is on the way , hopefully my Streetfighter figures are in the pipeline too.
