I think Topuria is avoiding Paddy because he knows he will get reality checked at 155. Paddy is a massive risk for Topuria for very little reward. He won't fight at 155 unless it's for the title.

I am not sure that free views on YouTube translate all that well to purchases of a PPV at roughly $100 all in to watch an event or ticket sales at $200+ each.

Ilia MIGHT become a big star, it largely remains to be seen. If he wins his next 2 fights and claims the LW strap, I suspect his star power will.have quite the ol meteoric rise, if he loses his next fight, it will knock him way way the fuck back down the ladder.

But big risks can come with big rewards and he is going all in on the big risks aspect. Islam is a tall order and I get the impression the size difference will be pretty monumental, same for Charles who has filled.out as a fucking BIG dude at 155.

If it does play out like that, an Ilia vs Paddy title fight could sell really well.

That has the backstory plus two fairly polarizing fighters who will talk shit and sell the fight.

And should it get there, that would mean Ilia succeeds in taking the strap off (presumably) Islam AND Paddy passes a top 5 test, which is pretty much all huge names with big followings, so both of their "stock" and career momentun would be skyrocketed

Personally I don't think he should be fighting Islam. He has one title defense at 145. That's not enough to justify a title shot. He should have to fight Paddy now in a #1 contender bout, while Islam fights Arman.

With that said, I don't see Topuria beating Islam even if he gets the title shot.

That's your opinion. Size makes a big difference. Topuria is big for 145 and that helps his success.

I'll happily eat my words if I'm wrong, but I really don't think I am.

UFC 316 is O'Malley vs Merab, UFC 317 is most likely DDP vs Khamzat, UFC 318 is open for now (presumably July), and UFC 319 (August) is tenatively scheduled to be the Ankalaev/Pereira rematch. UFC 320 is in Mexico, and I doubt Islam fights in Mexico.

Where am I going with this? If Islam doesn't fight @ UFC 318*, then he's very likely to wait to fight @ UFC 321 or 322 in October or November, and after that he won't fight until after Ramadan 2026 (end of March 2026). And usually he waits 2-3 months after Ramadan to fight, to get a full fight camp.

That means if Islam gets his way and Islam vs Arman happens during Fall 2025, then Topuria will be waiting until June 2026 to fight Islam.
