Topurias star power

Who is the last guy with only 700K views in 7 months? Looks familiar, but cannot seem to remember his name.

p.s. Probably he could have had 1 million plus views, if he had not made the others want to go to bed after the first minute.

Imagine if he fought more and the ufc pushed him as hard as they pushed Conor. I think he could be a huge star.

Absolutely, but I feel like the UFC doesn't actually want another star to get to Conor's level of popularity again. They are too hard to control when they get that big.

They probably see someone like O'Malley as being more controllable hence the push he gets, despite him not having a particularly large organic fan base.

maybe people are bored or joe's audience has grown?

the fact that belal gets 700K means that anyone is willing to watch joe and it fluctuates from there. I like Topuria, but a two hour episode with the guy is a bit much

Ilia was great on JRE. Don't let the soundbites and surface level social media persona fool you. The guy is a good person, smart and unique in his way of thinking and handling things as a fighter. He's also more humble than you think, he asked Joe a lot of questions and was open to other ideas.

Any examples?
Said Canada is so communist that he’d rather go to Russia than Canada. I dislike Trudeau, Canadas former leader. I could scream I hate Trudeau and nothing would happen to me. Try screaming I hate Putin in Russia. Ironically, despite the fact that Canada has a ton of problems, we are actually 1 of the most free countries in the world. I can criticize or shit on any leader

I think Topuria is avoiding Paddy because he knows he will get reality checked at 155. Paddy is a massive risk for Topuria for very little reward. He won't fight at 155 unless it's for the title.

He's white hot at the moment, but the lack of clarity surrounding his move to 155 and the time its taking to get him a fight is a buzzkill as a fight fan.
Not that I'm blaming him or Islam or Hunter or anyone else, but he's coming off of 2 of the best wins we've seen in many years, and yet we have no idea who is next or even when to expect it

And the list of must see fighters that the UFC can't seem to get in the cage gets a little longer every day...

I mean, if knocking out two all time greats in Volk and Max doesn't make someone a star, then fucking nothing makes anyone a star.

Lol nah

He won the belt and defended it once in the division, which is equivalent to Luke Rockhold's championship run.
To abandon the division like that afterwards is really insulting to the UFC and the fans.
I don't blame them for keeping him on the back burner when he's demanding royalty treatment and hasn't done anything.

He's a great fighter, but he has no legacy as a champ.
1 title defense is bullshit.

He vacated the FW title and he's being forgotten already while he begs for a LW title shot. He better get in the octagon again quickly because he's not as big as he thinks he is. He'll never be as famous as Conor.

He's on his way.
Do I ever think he will reach SUPERstar status?
Maybe. That's if he beats Islam and wins a number of huge fights, and continues this trend over time, much like a Jones or Silva.
The fact is, Topuria has a pretty boring personality. He's an amazing fighter which will take him far, but the upper echelon of superstars is usually resigned for personalities (Conor, Ronda, Brock, Chuck, even GSP with his whole honorable martial artist thing)

Ilia vacated and pitched his tent in No Man's Land.

Topuria is waiting for Dana to give him an "opportunity" that he agrees with -- so he can enter Lightweight as a Fighter, not onlooker.

Meanwhile, UFC is occupied looking for more money in their next big broadcast media deal.

lol come on, he is not being forgotten

Islam will most likely send him back and then Jean Silva will send him home. A very good fighter tho.

Even though he only has one title defense, he still destroyed the #2 and #3 GOATs of his division. He's certainly done "something".

It's not the equivalent of O'Malley getting a title shot against Chito.
