Media Topuria's ditched coach Jorge Climent talk about the split

There's always this Conor comparison, but the first time Conor ever got hurt in a fight was against Diaz 1. And he clearly looked like it was a situation he has never been in before and didn't know how to handle it.

Topuria has already been dropped and badly hurt and he passed that test with flying colors.
Did he? I mean if Hurbert was more experienced (It was his first fight in the UFC) he probably would not of fumbled the finish however what is interesting is how Illa was never able to take him out on the ground and they were on it for the rest of the fight. Obviously Ilia finished on the feet BUT it was actually his last at 155 and he was done/out/twilight for about 3/5 seconds :

I don't like the guy only because people have already declared him winner of MMA and he has already planned his retirement. He will probably beat Charles, I just wish people would save the energy and excitement for when he does.

I know but the thread is about Topuria training at his home now without all the coaches and training partners he used to have, so its totally new now. I was saying in my post that he has to becareful to not have yes men and punching bag trainers partners like Conor did, or he won't know what to do when guys start to fight back. Depends who he has at his house to train with. My feeling is he will bring in guys with lots of experience as he has the money so it should be fine. But he needs guys at his home who will fight back, everyone was scared to fight back with Conor and all they did was try to block, so as soon as it got intense in a real fight he would just wilt and wilt and fall apart.
I dont know bro... I think you either have the heart or you don't. Topuria clearly has it.

It would be bad if he brings punching bags like those cans Conor loved to beat up in SBG lol.. but being in Madrid he should have access to a pletora of high level kickboxers and even grapplers from eastern Russia.

I guess we will know what type of caliber of partners he has if he starts posting pics from his training camp.

These guys who don't realize their team is what got them to the dance are fucking delusional. It's hard to be great when you don't have sparring partners who are emulating your opponents and helping you get better. It's hard to be great when you don't have your coaches pushing you to your limit every day. If he was just headed to another gym for a change of pace or style, I could understand that. Training at home with coaches who only see potential dollar signs is a train-wreck situation. Ego is gonna get this guy, and deservedly so.

Or maybe Topuria and those around him aren't the delusional idiots you all seem to think they are and actually know what they're doing?

100% he's going to be training with his brother. The same brother who took 6 years off fighting and went and learned how to box, and got good enough that Ilia himself asked him to teach him despite Ilia already having a way better career. His brother become Ilia's coach, and coached him to winning the belt off Volk, and defending it against Max.

His brother clearly doesn't "only see potential dollar signs", and Ilia asking him to train him when he already had a way better career doesn't speak of ego at all.

It's really hard to take seriously any post that uses the nickname Toppy. If I'm honest I assume every such post is written by a closet homosexual, and their support for Ilia is based on rather more than his fighting prowess.

Toppy doesnt approve your post

It's going to be his brother. The same one that put his career on hold to get good enough at boxing to start teaching Ilia and coach him to wins over Volk and Max.

People love to go on like Ilia is some Conor copycat for bullshit reasons, but this is nothing like Conor getting in bums and playing touch butt in the park with that Yoga guy.

I’m so sorry it’s so hard for you to take serious
Toppy is his name, knockouts is his game
You might have deep underlying issues if you assume everyone is gay
I ain’t got no candy for you, so keep your homoerotic shit to yourself

That's really sad.

Please someone humble him.

Why is it sad and humble him for what?

He was already trained by his brother, who put his own career on old and went and learned how to box. Ilia, who already had a way better career than his brother, then asked him to teach him. That's not what people who aren't humble do lol.

His brother coached him to wins over Volk and Max.

I’m pretty sure Ilia still has coaches lmao, the point is no single coach is making a fighter great, yes you need competent coaches, but there are many of those out there

rumour has it he split from the coaches to save money and instead invested in a large mirror and his reflection will be coaching him from here on out

The amount of triggered Ilia fans in here is hilarious. Sounds like he is putting together a good team (I was unaware of who the new coaches would be when posting initially), so we'll see what happens. Some of you dudes need to take his dick out of your mouths though, some of this nut hugging is extreme. Or perhaps we just have triggered Spaniards hoping to finally have someone to root for?

Topuria haters are just running wild making it out like he has no clue what he's doing and ignoring the fact that his brother has been coaching him for ages. He literally went off and learned how to box so he could teach Ilia. He's very likely just going to continue being coached by his brother.

But yeh, nah. He parted on good terms with the gym he was at and now he's playing touch butt in the park like Conor and needs to be humbled or some shit lol.

You came to a dumb conclusion, realized you were wrong, and now you’re coping :)

i don't get why you'd make such a drastic change before the biggest fight of your career vs the most dangerous fighter you've ever fought?
The timing of it is indeed questionable, even if we were to assume that the changes are not drastic. Could be a sign that pressure is building up.

I'm neither a fan nor a hater. I read an interview long before his title fight and just thought that maybe he needed to lose a fight to shed some of his arrogance. As I said, that was a few years ago.
Well, that hasn't happened yet. I was more impressed by how he knocked out Volk. Afterward, I thought he could beat Max, but I didn't think he'd do the same to Max. Holloway has never been knocked out. All in all, very impressive. Doesn't make me a fan, but you have to respect him.
Well, I expected the move to the lightweight division, but I'm not going to become a fan of it. There are still more than enough contenders in the featherweight division that he could fight before such a move. But ultimately, that's up to him to decide.
We won't know how the now-publicized "split" from his old camp will play out until he has his next fight at lightweight.
As I said, not a fan, but certainly interested in what happens next.

I don't know for sure he can win the Charles fight, he might fumble it.

do people realize that Alicante is a small town and that Madrid is one of the biggest cities in Spain?
training in the capital opens a lot of opportunities, sparring partners, coaches...
since Ilia likes to train different disciplines separately Alicante is really a small place with not much to offer.

Didn’t read every reply but am I the only one that thinks it can be a good thing to switch coaches/camps? Sometimes I think it might be the only way to improve, I mean how much more can Ilia learn from this guy after all these years? There’s no denying that he’s helped Ilia get to where he’s at but at the end of the day it’s Ilia putting in the work and getting in the cage. I think he’ll be fine.
