Media Topuria's ditched coach Jorge Climent talk about the split

These guys who don't realize their team is what got them to the dance are fucking delusional. It's hard to be great when you don't have sparring partners who are emulating your opponents and helping you get better. It's hard to be great when you don't have your coaches pushing you to your limit every day. If he was just headed to another gym for a change of pace or style, I could understand that. Training at home with coaches who only see potential dollar signs is a train-wreck situation. Ego is gonna get this guy, and deservedly so.
You along with everyone else trashing him are making a lot of assumptions

We don’t know what his new training situation looks like… and I doubt Ilia is a complete idiot

i guess we'll see when they fight
I remember his brother talking about putting his own career on hold for years to invest 100% of his energy into coaching Ilia.

It seems to have worked out pretty well for them so far, so I don't think they will do any drastic changes in their training and preparation.

Or maybe we've just seen the beginning of this downward spiral a ton of times? I agree we don't have all the details yet, but this isn't looking good for someone who has the potential to be a superstar.

Yep. This happens sometimes when you adopt the character of a cunt, you inadvertently become one.

We have? List all of the people comparable to Ilia who we have seen completely collapse on the cusp of superstardom because they randomly decided to have a shit training camp

"Spanish combat sports reporter, Alvaro Colmenero, recently shared some important clarification into what that means for Topuria now ...and it really doesn’t seem like a massive change is underway for “El Matador.” In fact, you’ve already seen the new “freelance” Topuria perform as he’s been living in Madrid and working with his modified team since at least the Max Holloway fight."

“For quite some time, Ilia’s work team was formed by his own brother Aleks and Javi Climent (who is not related to the Climent brothers),” Colmenero reported. “Javi Climent [originally a boxing coach and now a striking coach] moved months ago to Madrid to form part of his hardcore of technical preparation, something that will continue to be the case ... And he had added Mani Tavanaei and Mathias Ribeiro (prestigious BJJ black belts) to his team.”

I think it's a stretch to assume that he won't find as good or better sparring partners after his move to Madrid.

Seems like a Crocop-situation, where he built a gym at his house and took in specialists and sparring partners to prepare for specific opponents.

i don't get why you'd make such a drastic change before the biggest fight of your career vs the most dangerous fighter you've ever fought?
Maybe...

Toppy haters foaming at the mouth like usual

Sounds like a geography thing, he wants to be in Madrid, they have family and business elsewhere
It’s only business

Time for the Toppy Bird to leave the nest and fly high and soar

It's really hard to take seriously any post that uses the nickname Toppy. If I'm honest I assume every such post is written by a closet homosexual, and their support for Ilia is based on rather more than his fighting prowess.

So Ilia was a snake in the grass all along?
I think it's worse than that. IMO he's a decent fighter, but he's been relatively lucky.

I'm not sold on him. I think he has more chances of turning out like Cody Garbrandt than he does Anderson Silva. One bad loss is all it will take to break his confidence and prove his luck has run out. If that happens, it's 100% downhill.

Aha. Ilia is an arrogant cunt, so because of that it has to be bad.

That's probably why everyone says it's such a bad idea, because they are hoping it will fail.

It's difficult to think clearly about something (or someone) you're really upset about.

This will mean absolutely nothing if/when he beats Charles. This reminds me exactly of when people thought Volk would end him and then Max would finally end him.

Lol. I think he's an awesome fighter and you need a certain level of arrogance to stay at the top.

But I'm a 50yo man with plenty of life experience, and the red flags have been stacking up with Ilia in the last few months.

I'm not angry or concerned about what comes next for him, I enjoy his fights whatever happens. All I'm saying is the events of recent months will be ringing alarm bells for anyone with a modicum of life experience and intuition. I think he's in for a rude awakening at 155.

Seems quite strange to me to only train in his home, could be risky, a lot depends on what training partners he has in his house, if they are guys with a lot of experience that will fight back then it might not be a big problem, but if its just punching bags who only block and don't fight back and are scared to death to do anything wrong like Conors training partners then I suspect he will wilt and fall apart quite quickly if the fight starts not going his way

There's always this Conor comparison, but the first time Conor ever got hurt in a fight was against Diaz 1. And he clearly looked like it was a situation he has never been in before and didn't know how to handle it.

Topuria has already been dropped and badly hurt and he passed that test with flying colors.

I know but the thread is about Topuria training at his home now without all the coaches and training partners he used to have, so its totally new now. I was saying in my post that he has to becareful to not have yes men and punching bag trainers partners like Conor did, or he won't know what to do when guys start to fight back. Depends who he has at his house to train with. My feeling is he will bring in guys with lots of experience as he has the money so it should be fine. But he needs guys at his home who will fight back, everyone was scared to fight back with Conor and all they did was try to block, so as soon as it got intense in a real fight he would just wilt and wilt and fall apart.

As long as Ilia maintains that motivation and discipline he'll be fine with any decent coach.

Losing good training partners and sparring is more detrimental to his career than a coach at this point in his career in my opinion.

I think shertards read too much about this.

Maybe Illia tapped out whatever he could learn from his coaches and forms a great team around him based on his need and his brothers too.. or maybe he is making a mistake. Who the fook knows at this point.
