Good to see another Lobster mention, I think Sherdog's perhaps too wary on that film as some kind of extreme arthouse weirdness, I mean the concept is obviously very oddball but for me its really not that hard to get into, you'll be pushed to find a film that moves from hilarious to tragic and back again quite as often.

Spring Breakers is something I must get around to as well although its one of those films I don't see much middle ground on, people either seem to love it or hate it.

Amour is still in my pile of DVD's to watch but I'v been skipping over it for months until I'm in the mood to be seriously depressed.
yep I love Yorgos Lanthimos’ dry, blackened absurdist humor & The Lobster is probably his most comedic film to date. Dogtooth, Alps, The Lobster & The Killing of a Sacred Deer are all aces. as long as Lanthimos is making movies I am giving him my $$$

I’m always curious to hear people’s opinion on Spring Breakers after they’ve watched it for the first time, so you’ll have to report back whenever you get around to it. I find new reasons to love it every time I watch it.

that Haneke will getchya right in the feels, let me tell ya. he’ll do it w/ a smile on his face too.

I will be interesting to see what happens with Lanthimos's The Favourite, the first thing he's done that's been written by someone else and perhaps more of a stab at mainstream acceptance?

Some of you guys might appreciate "A girl walks alone at night". Great film and soundtrack.

I'm sure some will disagree but I would put Annihilation in my top 20

I'm still pissed at Netflix for making that an online only release in the UK, for one thing I don't have it(and these kinds of tactics make me more determined not to), for another this looks like the kind of film best experienced at the cinema.

Guess i'll be waiting until the DVD/BR release in May.

As I said in the other thread I think it kind of goes both ways with Refn, he's too arty for a lot of the mainstream but too pulpy for a lot of the art crowd. I think some of the criticism with his films being too graphic is a bit overstated personally, indeed I think you could argue that really he's one of the few genre film makers that rarely makes violence "cool" but keeps in realistically shocking even if the films are rather fantastical.

Gone Girl
Get Out
Birdman
Captain Phillips
Crazy Heart
Black Swan
Enter the Void
Argo
12 Years a Slave
Her
Gravity

A few Hateful Eight mentions I'm seeing as well, maybe opinion shifting a bit on that over time relative to Django? honestly I think it might have a case to be his best film overall since Pulp Fiction, maybe Inglorious Basterds having greater highs but not fitting together quite as well for me. Its only real weakness I'd say is that rather needless flashback.

Don't think I saw Wind River listed, they just put it on Netflix. Give it a try. Movie of the year 2017 for me

The revenant
Sicario
Hell or high water
Wind River
Inception
Hateful 8
Nightcrawler
Den of Thieves
Ex Machina

All I can remember at this moment

Need to watch Interstellar

If you can enjoy something like Nightcrawler or The Revenant I think you'd not have a problem with the majority of that list, at least those I'v seen from it.

This is my list. Not in a specific order.

I recommend 4, 5, 16, 18 and 20 for anyone interested as you may have not seen them.

Out of those 5, I highly recommend watching (16) Look Who's Back.

1. Mad Max Fury Road
The fast pacing, over top stunt work and visuals make for a great repeat watch story.

2. Prometheus Many don't like this movie, but I love it for the "ancient alien theory" aspect of the story and an origin story to aliens.

3. War for the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Rise of the Planet of the Apes. All three are done very well. I like the changing human actors from movie to movie; it's a good epic story which tries to do things creatively for a franchise reboot - unlike the new star wars'.

4. Silence Martin Scorsese movie. Very political and philosophical. Very thought provoking.

5. Embrace of the Serpent Black and white cinematography of the Amazon. Very meta, philosophical and spiritual.

6. The Revenant Amazing visuals. Great acting. Intense story and scenes.

7. Minions I love these lil guys. Some of the best cartoon characters. They don't speak a real language but they still are able to convey so much with their gibberish.

8. The Lego Movie Great visuals with a stop-motion feel to them. Very fun story.

9. Chappie An awesome sci-fi movie with Die Antwerd who put on an awesome performance. Lots of philosophical ideas in it too.

10. Cloud Atlas Based on a book. A lot of people didn't like this one, but it's got a wild story. Very esoteric. The interconnected narrative is very cool.

11. Bourne Legacy My favorite of the Bourne movies. It feels fresher as it does not have Matt Damon, and I think the story is more interesting as it reveals a lot more about the project.

12. Sherlock Holmes 1 and 2 I thought this was an excellent take on Sherlock Holmes. Good acting, nice visuals and a fun immersive adventure ride.

13. Tron Legacy Awesome visuals once again. Fun adventure ride. Has a lot of philosophical ideas. A continuation of the original with a great soundtrack.

14. The Expendables Not a really great action movie, but it is rated R and it brings together a lot of our favorite 80's/90's action stars under one roof. Plus points for not having Ronda Rousey in it.

15. The Crazies A remake of a 70s movie. Very tense and a good take on zombies.

16. Looks Who's Back Probably one of the best movies. Based on a book where Hitler time travels to the present. Very thought provoking. Takes the viewer on a roller coaster of feels and thoughts.

17. Warcraft: The Beginning I loved warcraft as a kid. Still waiting for a starcraft movie. This movie was a lot of fun and the visuals were outstanding.

18. The Osiris Child A lower budget sci-fi movie which is still visually strong and has a very interesting story line and delivery.

19. The Adventures of Tin Tin This is a great adventure of a classic character. Very fun and fast paced story telling. Memorable characters and outstanding visuals.

20. The Dead Lands I love movies about tribal cultures. This is a low key film but very immersive. Uses the native language as well.

Tron Legacy is definitely a very underrated film I'd agree, I think it caught the anti 3D backlash from Avatar personally, along similar lines the recent Ghost in the Shell was I think very underrated as well due to all the white washing fuss.

Best action blockbusters this decade for me would be...

Tron Legacy
Kickass
Skyfall
Lucy
Guardians of the Galaxy
The WInter Solider
Fury Road
Kingsmen
Rogue One
Civil War
Logan
Ghost In The Shell
Thor Ragnarok

Haven't seen the Planet of the Apes films after the first though, mostly because I fell behind with the franchise and didn't want to jump into it.
