When he left his prime is probably impossible to pinpoint. I knew it was coming. Late 30s for a lightweight is old. I do agree that he didn’t look himself against Justin, but in the fight he did have flashes of brilliance and even almost finishing Justin who was save by the bell. The fight with Charles was a lot more troubling. At no point did he look like he was even in that fight.

Yeah, it is all 100% true.

That said, Charles controlling him on the ground isn't necessarily shocking. Kevin Lee is not quite at the level and was able to mount Tony as well. I think it would be more troubling to me if he was pieced up on the feet by Charles and never able to get anything off. Both Gaethje and Charles are awful matchups for him. Charles earlier in his career would have wilted.

Tony is a good fighter with alot of heart and toughness but in reality his 12 fight win streak was padded to the maximum.

Never fought a top 3 ranked guy other than an RDA coming off a KO loss and never fought anyone with decent boxing until he got exposed by Justin on short notice.

Tony's biggest credential was winning the interim title...against Kevin Lee.

Getting outgrappled with ease by Charles recently also exposes the fact that his bjj blackbelt from 10th Planet is just a McDojo belt.

Dude is an entertaining fighter but not as high level as people think he is.

I think his boxing was exposed against MJ Nd his wrestling against Castillo. His winning streak had a lot of unknowns like Mike Rio, past primes like 36 year old Cowboy , near losses like Lando and Tony’s greatest win RDA who has been beaten by 7 other LW’s . Tony has a lot of skill and heart but was never the best and May no longer be a top 10.

So now, we’re not acting like Tony is 37?? Is there any all time great LW that has looked great beyond 35ish?? Also, all of those guys you listed were coming off win streaks or big wins when they fought Tony and were actually fighting pretty well at the time. That’s more important than just throwing up there recent records. You can pick apart any fighter’s resume by doing that. For instance, people say Pettis was washed when he fought Tony but he was only like 31 and had just recently fimsihed Chiesa and Oliveira and went on to KO Wonderboy right after losing to Tony. Was Pettis washed at 31 when a lot of LWs hit their prime or was he just fighting more and more elite comp? Cowboy and Lee were also fighting well with several top 10 win streaks at the time. But sure, you can just just throw their record up there and say they suck.

Tony said he was in the best shape ever for Charles fight. Dude had almost a Weidman esque decline. His striking was abysmal.
