News Tony Ferguson says he won’t fight if Oliveira does not make weight

We'll see. I understand why he wants to fight big name guys, but he should probably settle for any decent opponent at this point.
The ufc is offering him top guys. I don't know why you guys expect him to settle for less because YOU don't think he deserves it.

Oliveira missed weight several times yet you don't call him weight bully

Aaaaand the top guys are turning him down. It's not settling when you have no other options. Maybe Hooker will volunteer to beat him up.

I agree. You agree to a certain weight you meet at that weight.

i dont blame him its what cost him his last lost he didnt have to cut twice but did it b/c of the principle

tony only has 2 losses in his ufc career and those two are from late replacement fights

you dont believe that if justin and MJ fought him again with both having a proper camp to prepare that tony would lose?

He's hardly In a desperate situation where he has to fight just anyone. His employer doesn't seem to think so.

Also worth noting:

Oliveira faced Myles Jury on December 19, 2015 at UFC on Fox 17.[46] In the lead up to the fight Oliveira missed weight - his third time in his UFC career - for the bout and it was subsequently contested at a catchweight.[47] Oliveira won the fight via submission in the first round.[48]

Oliveira faced Ricardo Lamas on November 5, 2016 at The Ultimate Fighter Latin America 3 Finale.[51] The bout was contested at a catchweight of 155 lbs, as Oliveira missed weight by nearly 10 lbs

4 weight misses in the UFC alone and one of them by 9 pounds.
While he was at 145..m

And its worth mentioning that fighters that miss weight have a winning record in the UFC. Its a strategy.

Take the loss in the paycheck for an advantage in the cage, and if you win the vast majority won't remember or care you missed weight.

Tony knows his relevancy is on the line with this fight. Its a smart move to say publicly he won't accept the fight if Oliveria does not make weight, to take that strategy off the table.

its something crazy like 90% win and its like 2/3rd happen via career damaging finishes

Every data set I've seen shows fighters coming in over the weight limit having a losing record.

This has them collectively at 47% win.

All at FW though. He hasn't missed at 155

Missing weight by 10lbs and fighting Lamas at a 155lbs catch weight takes it out of featherweight. That becomes a lightweight fight which wasn't what Lamas signed up for.

Yes. Fighter who missed weight pays 20%-40% (the more you miss by, the higher the %) of "reported" pay to the opponent.

If they fight. Or opponent has every right to say no, and make his show money.

But when I say 'every right' and I mean that in the legal sense; the social consequences - mostly being on Dana's shit list - are very real. There's a reason almost every fighter chooses to fight anyway.
I'm pretty sure they don't get their show money if they don't fight. Show money means showing up in the cage, not just making weight. It's shitty treatment but i think that's why a lot of fighters still compete if their opponent comes in heavy.

2/3 pay reduction, so you basically go into debt because you wanted to cheat. Might work for those trying to save their jobs

you sign to fight at 155lbs....you need to make that weight. simple. if you can't, that should be telling you to move up in weight. or just start your cut earlier. if the commission doesn't penalize them more, the ufc should.

Makes sense that he would try to duck oliveira. His days are numbered.

Has Oliveira ever missed weight at LW before?

Edit: Just checked, Oliveira has never missed weight at LW, he has had two catch weight fights above 155 but both were due to his opponents missing weight.

Oliveira has only ever missed weight at FW.
