Tony Ferguson says he regrets going toe to toe with Gaethje

Two weight cuts ? Absolutely makes sense now.

Just don't look past the fact that Tony himself chose to do 2 weight cuts for no reason at all lol.

And it wouldn't have mattered anyway. Justin was a league above what Tony was used to fighting. Justin would have flogged him regardless. Tony lost all the following fights because he finally fighting people who were always too good for him.

The fight with Khabib got canceled and Tony just decided to do his weight cut anyway even though he'd already agreed to fight Gaethje a few weeks later. So he did the cut once...rehydrated and went back to camp to prepare for Justin, then did the cut again. And Tony wasn’t a small LW, he started out at 170 then dropped down.

His cutting weight twice in a month was in line with his mindset. Nutty, extreme, unorthodox. It's both what made him great and also what led to his incredibly steep decline.

He did two weight cuts back to back in a very short period of time which was insanely stupid and left him in a weakened state. Then he got his ass kicked in that weakened state. Combine those two things with him getting old for the weight class, injuries he never properly healed from and overall dumb and destructive training methods and he was always gonna be a ticking time bomb

Nah. Tony beat prime RDA (yeah coming off a loss where Eddie caught him but prior to that he was wrecking everyone) so he absolutely was able to take out elite guys in their prime. He just brought about his own decline faster than maybe it would've come.

Who knows how the Justin fight goes if Tony hadn't done two weight cuts like the weirdo he is? Maybe Justin still wins, maybe not. But I don't buy those guys he fought once he fell off a cliff were better than his prime version, no way. Or at least he'd have had great fights with them vs getting run over.

His whole thing of being a lunatic was made up. The dude is a fraud, bro. Smart, but a fraud.

Ehh..."lunatic" is dramatic but I don't think he was playing a role. He absolutely has those extreme ADHD tendencies coupled with that really high strung personality. It's also how he fought in the cage.

Wouldn't even say his chin gave out. Was kind of the opposite, where it held up too well until he took so much damage that the whole rest of his body decided "yeah, fuck this".

Spot on.

Tony was always going to go on the big losing streak even if he never fought Gaethje.

I kept hoping he'd be able to pull out another uppercut or different move that would catch Justin by surprise and lock in a sub but Justin made the right adjustments and gave a beating so bad it the only other fight that comes close to it is Glover/Maldonado.

He beat Prime RDA after turning the fight his way with an eye poke that RDA didn't really recover from. That was the only elite guy he beat. The rest were washed as fuck like Cowboy and Pettis.

I don't think he brought about his own decline faster, unless we're talking about not learning good fundamentals or something. His problem was always that he never really had those, and was always taking more damage than he needed to in fights, even if he did end up winning. That stopped working when he fought better guys.

Prime Tony still would have gotten held down easily by Charles and Dariush. Those guys were always miles beyond any version of Tony at grappling.

Me, I don't really buy that he was suddenly shit and washed the moment he fought Justin. There was just a huge difference between fighting washed cowboy and Pettis, and then fighting Justin.

You can have ADHD and the like and still be putting on a character.

I don't think lunatic is dramatic if you believe what his wife said in all those police reports lol.

Okay yeah that one incident was nuts.

Yep I remember now . Thanks for jogging my memory.

You should look into all that a bit more.

Whenever Tony was being a lunatic, even in public, it was still only his wife that witnessed any of it. Even when he supposedly leapt out of a moving car on the highway and was running around, no one saw it.

Every police report, the cops rock up and Tony is completely cooperative with them. Never caused trouble at all. He knows not to cross that line. The ones where he tore out walls to find listening devices or whatever, the cops never even verified any of that. I think in that one the report said they never even entered the house.

The only time he was a bit troublesome was when he got arrested drunk or whatever, but that was literally him being drunk. That had nothing to do with his gimmick.

There's other shit he does well that are big red flags for me as well.

The dumb training videos. No one is having a sports career if they're training like that. No one. He put that shit on for the views.

The way he types on social media as well. Such fucking bullshit. It takes way more thought and intention to write like he does. I've literally been paid to write like that myself before. It's not easy work or something you don't do coherent. Also, you know it's bullshit because whenever he has to do a promo tweet for a sponsor or whatever, all of a sudden most of the time he types normally. Does the crazy magically switch off whenever he writes the promo tweets or something? lol no.

The dude is smart. He's known what he was doing from the beginning. Just puts on this character, act like a lunatic and an asshole, and gets an absolute ton of leeway from the fans.

You'll see a lot more of him out of character now because there's no need for the character anymore. Like, I said, he's smart. I mean, he's off studying business at Harvard, and has been for a couple of years now, yet people who bought into his gimmick thought he was going to go off the deep and it was all gonna end so tragically lol. Like come on haha.
