Tony Ferguson says he regrets going toe to toe with Gaethje

completely don't understand the whole schmo thing, never have. i don't know how you'd ever expect to get an even halfway decent interview out of all that goofy shit, it's such a distraction you can barely concentrate on anything else.

I think his biggest mistake was cutting weight twice when it was canceled.

If I had to guess (if his public persona isn't just a schtick,) it'd be that he's battling depression.
I didn't want to say it because it's a pretty serious subject and not something anyone can say with confidence based on a few seconds of talking, but it is very true that someone who is normally pretty imbalanced or emotionally divergent suddenly acting very normal can often be a very bad sign.

Again, it's not something I'd throw out here, but it is something people should know

His whole thing of being a lunatic was made up. The dude is a fraud, bro. Smart, but a fraud.

That was a fake restraining order and police report?

You should look into all that a bit more.

Whenever Tony was being a lunatic, even in public, it was still only his wife that witnessed any of it. Even when he supposedly leapt out of a moving car on the highway and was running around, no one saw it.

Every police report, the cops rock up and Tony is completely cooperative with them. Never caused trouble at all. He knows not to cross that line. The ones where he tore out walls to find listening devices or whatever, the cops never even verified any of that. I think in that one the report said they never even entered the house.

The only time he was a bit troublesome was when he got arrested drunk or whatever, but that was literally him being drunk. That had nothing to do with his gimmick.

There's other shit he does well that are big red flags for me as well.

The dumb training videos. No one is having a sports career if they're training like that. No one. He put that shit on for the views.

The way he types on social media as well. Such fucking bullshit. It takes way more thought and intention to write like he does. I've literally been paid to write like that myself before. It's not easy work or something you don't do coherent. Also, you know it's bullshit because whenever he has to do a promo tweet for a sponsor or whatever, all of a sudden most of the time he types normally. Does the crazy magically switch off whenever he writes the promo tweets or something? lol no.

The dude is smart. He's known what he was doing from the beginning. Just puts on this character, act like a lunatic and an asshole, and gets an absolute ton of leeway from the fans.

You'll see a lot more of him out of character now because there's no need for the character anymore. Like, I said, he's smart. I mean, he's off studying business at Harvard, and has been for a couple of years now, yet people who bought into his gimmick thought he was going to go off the deep and it was all gonna end so tragically lol. Like come on haha.

Weaponizing pace and toughness was the only way Tony knew how to win fights. Trying an Imanari Roll was the backup plan.

Valid take too to bottom!

The “looking back on one’s mistakes” is kind of typical.
People get depressed about sh-t sometimes. If his people care about and support him, then he’ll probably be fine.

Love Tony...and yeah sure that was a bad idea BUT it was a bad idea mainly because Tony decided to do TWO weight cuts unnecessarily prior to that fight. His pictures looked horrible. He was drained AF and drawn out.

It's actually surprising he lasted as long as he did in that fight given the punishment he took. And it unquestionably sent him off a cliff career-wise.
Two weight cuts ? Absolutely makes sense now.

Tony cut weight twice and still managed to drop Gaethje at the end of the 2nd round. Shows just how tough he actually was but his chin did give out that night.
Wouldn't even say his chin gave out. Was kind of the opposite, where it held up too well until he took so much damage that the whole rest of his body decided "yeah, fuck this".
