Has anyone that was once a #1 contender in the UFC had such a bad 0-8 run to end their career?

I still can't believe he went from being 14-1 in the UFC, immediately to an 0-8 slide. Justin Gaethje really ruined this guy's career.

BJ Penn went from being LW champion, former WW champion to losing 9 of his last 11 fights. Lost to Frankie twice, beat Matt Hughes in his 2nd last fight, draw with Fitch and loses 7 in a row. Only 1 win in his last 11 fights.

I was more concerned with Tony's 'I don't care what people think about me' comment.

I appreciate self-belief, wanting to prove people wrong, using criticism as fuel, etc...but maybe Tony *should* care what people think because he absolutely should not be competing in any more striking sports with the head trauma he has taken. The only think dumber than continuing to pursue MMA fights is his move to boxing. WTF.

I don't know why he hasn't gone hard into grappling. The number of options in BJJ and other submission formats has grown quite a bit in recent years. Tony is still a big enough name that he could surely score some opportunities in that domain, even if it is mainly super fight or 'legends' matches. If he really focused on his grappling to sharpen up, I think there would be fan interest in watching him compete.

Pettis, Garbrandt, Rockhold, Barao. Theres been some really bad ones but Tony is at the top of the list for sure.
