YouTube video with Tommy’s widow discussing her claim that Tommy never had HIV and the initial tests were wrong. He got re-tested in 2007 by NSAC and they found no evidence of infection and admitted they didn’t indefinitely suspend him.

interesting if true.

On July 22, 2007, the New York Times reported that Morrison took two HIV tests in 2007 and a third specifically for the Times.[34] Ringside doctors, including Nevada's chief ringside physician, implied that the negative results were not based on Morrison's blood.[34]
It sounds like there was some tampering involved when he got retested. Though, foul play aside, it's entirely possible that him being on ARVs for so long reduced his viral load to undetectable levels. He was already nearly at that point well before 2007. Rest assured though that he had full-blown AIDS. His own mother came out and said it, the commission had previously found him to be HIV+, and his own physician confirmed their findings. Tommy was probably just in denial (especially since he wanted to keep fighting), as was his wife, who didn't want to believe he had it.

Exactly. Dude was in denial. The interviewer could of got the real answer from her in less than a minute. "So did you ever let him raw dog?"

that denial is what killed him so early. His head was so fucked up with shame that he'd rather die than admit he had it.

the weird thing about it is that at the time, he seemed to accept that he had it and did interviews saying he was irresponsible. Maybe taunts of "f**" or "queer" got to him. You know he had to hear that shit in his macho assed town.

Also, why would he wait a decade to prove his case if he thought that original test was wrong?

He was still in his physical prime in the 90s with name value. I refuse to believe that he didn't get 2nd, 3rd and 4th opinions at the time about whether he was actually positive or not.

I believe his mom said he knew he tested positive in 89, how he got around those tests all those years, who knows. He wasn't a guy with good character so you can't count on a guy like that being honest.

There was a large sign in his town honoring him as the WBO heavyweight champ. After the diagnosis somebody spray painted something like "AIDS junky scum" over it. I might not be remembering it exactly, but it was something very close to that.

wouldn't surprise me. You know, you hear something one or two times maybe it won't bother you but if you hear it enough it has to fuck with ones head. I remember people talking shit about my car and telling myself "fuck them" but after about five times I started thinking "my car is a piece of shit" I had to catch myself. We are all influenced by what people around us reflect back to us.

Medical authorities say that that is a hard way for the virus to transmit. Possible but difficult. The experts never know everything, they say that a cut and contact with a person's blood is an unlikely way to contract HIV but apparently it has happened. The doctors at the time of Tommy's diagnosis said the odds of him infecting another boxer from a cut were "approaching zero".
