Media Tom Aspinall's plea to create an open weight HW class

The point is: guys like Francis and Brock COULD show up at that weight and in shape.
Yeah.. and you have also a 0.0001% of the population that could be even bigger.. some like Brian Shaw or Eddie Hall.

The 265lbs cap is stupid.

I’d love to see it go. Bigger doesn’t automatically mean an advantage. Look at Tyson, fedor etc. I think it would be the same with an open category.

Start with a Dana White XL Contender Series.

3 x 4 minute Rounds.

No grappling on the ground longer than 45 seconds unless fight finishing Ground-and-Pound or submission.

Keep them from leaning on the fence for more than 15 seconds.

Make them work the center of the cage and hunt each other on the feet.

Two exhausted fat dudes rolling around and laying on each other is not good entertainment, it is fetish.

I agree with him, it should be open weight. If your good enough to be in the UFC, regardless how big you are. Than they should give these guys a chance.

I don't wanna see more flab fests.

You won't have a flab fest. He just gave examples of guys 6'8 or 6'9 or whatever size that are naturally huge like 300+ lbs but lean muscle mass guys. They won't get guys that can't fight or just too slow. It would be guys who can actually entertaining us with their skills and abilities regardless of size.

Agree with this view?

How about Aspinal just lays off the pizza instead?

Also, enough which his whining, he will have his time in the sun when Jones retires, until then he will be interim wannabe

Good for Derick and especially Volkov.
For everyone else close to same.
Brock and Francis aren't with us anymore. Francis also lost a lot of weight for his PFL fight.
Basically for rare big thick guys ala Derick and for Sky Scrapers like Volkov. And mega roiders like Brock. Still makes sense. Apart the roiders. Volkov might want to come in at 280.

Brock did show up at about 300 pounds on fight night. Twelve percent weight cuts are certainly bigger than ideal, but they're also not notably unusual or something considered a significant fight disadvantage. And Brock could easily have been a better MMA fighter with less bulk and better MMA training.
Do you have a source for that cause I think the most he ever showed up at was 285.

I would be in favor. We know though what we will see. Bigger sloppy guys. By chance may get some well built giant fit guys.

Argument that people will get fat doesn't convince me at all.

If fat people can kick ass while eating cheeseburgers then so be it. I don't give a fuck.

100% agreed with Tom.
Silly cap.

You never hear that fat argument made in boxing with their uncapped HW. I guess someone like Tyson Fury shouldn't fight at all because he's fat, shaped like a deflating balloon and over 265 lbs.

Its pretty funny that we have a 265 limit and somehow theres still so many fat slow bastards at HW.

You see plenty of athletic dudes way above 265 in American football, rugby, wrestling etc, basketball to some degree also.
Super size, even with athletticism, doesn't seem to transfer particularly well in MMA. I think the loss in agility becomes a problem at some point.
