All that shit is irrelevant. If you think Jones is ducking Aspinall or Ronald Mcdonald, that is your view. I am not here to talk about jones view on the Aspinall fght, if he does or not, that is on him. We are just talking about the Stipe fight and the reality that the Stipe fight was put in place before Aspinall was interim and before aspinall was even a top division fighter. Aspinall was not even considered the backup to the Jones and Stipe fight, it was Sergei as Aspinall was not even in the picture. The Jones and Stipe fight fell through because jones got injured and is out for an extended amount of time. It was booked and then rebooked and is not hard to understand why it is going through.

It might go further back than that, even. Stipe claims that he was asked and verbally agreed to fight Jones for the belt Ngannou vacated, but that the UFC changed their mind and went with Gane. And earlier even than that they were trying to set up a Jones-Stipe bout, but the timing was real bad for Stipe and he had to say no. Apparently the UFC has been considering this matchup for a long while. I think that's why they never took Stipe off the rankings because of inactivity. And that his inactivity is as much a product of the company's reluctance to waste what could possibly be a last fight on a lesser opponent, than Stipe's passivity.

It would be great if UFC was a sport and not sports entertainment. (And I'm not even sure if it's sports entertainment when much of Dana's manipulation is based on who kisses his ass and who pisses him off. It's... little girl emotions entertainment.)

Maybe you're right but I could care less. I don't need MMA to be a true sport. I watch it, enjoy it, and that's all I need from MMA.

The UFC can never be a "real sport" they way it's owned/operated. Considering how UFC generally tries to make the best fights happen, regardless of whatever narrative they'd prefer, it's still been great the way it is. Compared to how fragmented boxing had been for decades, we've had it pretty damn good.

All being said, I hope Jones fights Aspinall, I really want to see that fight. I don't blame him for retiring after he beats Stipe though, or goes on with UFC to copromote a Francis fight with Dana White of the middle east, that Turki guy. That would be a huge money maker. I love what that guy has done for boxing recently!

Too many people, even now, pretend that mma isn’t a real sport, and it’s extra annoying to see people make the claim on what is ostensibly a site for mma fans.
