I suppose it shouldn't come as a surprise but I am pretty perplexed by all of the silliness I'm reading about Todd Duffee.
The guy is 29 years old. The Heavyweight champion turns 38 in two weeks time. Arlovski, his probable challenger, is 36. Frank Mir is 36.
Duffee has suffered a hard loss like ALL of the above have in their career, but make no mistake about it - he is young and will have learned from this experience. If you add up his minutes fought in a competitive environment ESPECIALLY over the last 4 years it is ridiculously low. He's still raw and working out holes in his approach and these can only be fixed with time and experience.
For all of the talk about chin - you show me a Heavyweight that would have eaten that shot and not gone to sleep. It doesn't happen. Duffee's approach/defense is flawed but it's iladvised and lazy to label him a glass chin. Mir tagged him and it had little to no effect. Hamilton tagged him and it had no effect. De Fries even landed a number of punches against the cage.
It was a very strong possibility that Duffee didn't handle the occasion and the spotlight well enough and as a result strayed from what his coaches would have told him to do. Providing he hasn't walked away with any injuries the absolute best thing for him would be to get another fight in ASAP. There are too many gaps in his career and that is the reason for his patchy approach in a competitive environment.
I would just like to post this to put it on record for the future. I believe in Todd Duffee and a loss to Frank Mir won't change that.
