To people saying the oblique kick is the same as a similar type of submission.

thread destroyed
Not really.
You can tap out before your knee gets wrecked by a leglock, you can't tap before getting your knee destroyed by an oblique kick.

Oblique kick is whack
As much respect as I have for Mr. Winklejohn and Holly Holm ( I bow my head down), quite spamming that shit! You too Bones!

How many fighters got injuries by submissions and how how many by the oblique kick?

Not really.

Tell that to Paul Harris opponents.

Has zero to do with whether or not I like them. The statement was simply incorrect, sorry.

Head strikes cause traumatic brain injuries, should those be banned as well?

Leg locks are notoriously damaging. That's why they're generally not taught to early stage jiu jitsu students. The way it's been taught to me, it's often the case that with leglocks, one you feel pain you are already injured.

Also, an oblique kick has never ended a MMA fight. Other leg kicks have.

Its a fight.. almost anything goes. If fighters complain about the obliques, maybe they should add the kicks to their arsenal themselves.

The strange part about that is that they're taught at judo, sambo and catch wrestling schools, yet you don't see people limping out on crutches everyday there. The reason leglocks are dangerous to a lot of jujitsu practitioners is that they simply don't know enough about them. I'll give you that it can happen in an instance if you don't know what you're doing though, but if you've been rolling with leglocks from the beginning you know very well when to tap.

If leg kicks scare you so much, learn to defend them.

Oblique Kick barely does any damage anyway I've never seen anyone get hurt by it in the Octagon. They are annoying for sure, I see that in the face of people getting hit by them, but they seem to be even less painful than jabs.

For those of you comparing the kick vs a leglock and how in a traditional BJJ gym you wouldnt even learn let alone attempt leglocks on other people till later down the road how about every traditional karate/kickboxing gym does not EVER allow this kick in sparring and in competition is dumb.

There is a strong reason "striking" schools and "striking" competition does not allow this technique

Not really.
You can tap out before your knee gets wrecked by a leglock, you can't tap before getting your knee destroyed by an oblique kick.

You can also have your limb destroyed by a submission before the referee stops the action. We've seen more people with damaged knees from submissions than we have from oblique kicks.

That technique is reserved for self-defense, like groing and eye attacks, and trying to cave opponents knee backwards
