TJ Dillashaw’s NCAA Record

Not really. None of those matches were for any kind of championship. He would need to win at least 3 matches in the NCAA tournament to have a chance at placing even top 8. He never won 1.

But only the top 32 in each weight class even make it to the tournament. So he had to be pretty damn good just to get there. It's no small thing to make it to the NCAA Wrestling championships.
do they do the typical tournament format and match the top seeds versus the low seeds? If so it's probably not unusual to have a record like that.

So he qualified for NCAA D1 championship 3x ?

and somehow that is supposed to mean he sucks because some shertard say so?

that’s what we’re doin here?

What the fuck happened here? That can’t be accurate, can it? I’ve never seen a record like that before in wrestling. Does it happen often?

Also, from this we must conclude that Dave Marble would be UFC Bantamweight champion with 6 months of boxing training. That’s if he wants to take a break from tagteaming chicks with Jim Cozad.

Marble Bless. Jim Cozad aka Jim GOATzad.

EDIT: Thread isn’t intended to bash the man, nor discredit him. It’s just a bizarre record to see and wanted to know if anyone knew more about it.

How is that a bizarre record? The vast the majority never even compete at that level. I don’t think bizarre is the word you’re looking for.

You thought dillashaw wrestled for 4 years and wrestled 6 times?
Probably just a misunderstanding on his/her part . People who don’t follow/understand wrestling see “NCAA record” and assume that is their collegiate career.

Gregor Gillespie doesn’t have his full record on wiki in the image display and some people would really believe he went 19-6. When he actually has over 150 wins in college. Or some people just don’t read the info in the wiki which might have the athletes wrestling career summarized.

Jim Cozad bless. Its been a long time since I heard that name.

Playoffs are cut-throat

For the VAST majority of athletes and teams, playoffs means you worked hard enough to earn the right to end your season on a devastating loss.

for many (About 30-40%)
it means getting your ass handed to you by an opponent you don’t belong in competition with

then those who survive round one get to face increasingly more difficult challenges until everyone but the champion taste defeat.

Matter of time till Dagestanis take the NCAA by storm and show America's youth what real 'rasslin' is all about.

I hear you. I regard judo and wrestling Olympic silver medallists as losers. Only gold is acceptable.

They started seeding everyone in 2019 I think. But before that they only seeded the top 16 or so, and after that it was more or less random. TJ was very lucky in his bracket placement. Never faced a top 6 guy in the first round, and none of the matches he lost were against wrestlers that were All Americans.

In 2007, if he had won his first match, he would have had to face the top ranked guy in the 2nd round.

In 2008, if he had won his first match, he would have faced the #2 ranked guy and eventual winner in the 2nd round.

In 2009, he could not have had it better. # 7 guy in the first round, and if he had won that, he would not have seen a top 8 guy until the semi finals.

to put it into perspective, qualifying for this tournament is much more difficult than winning a HS state championship. if you're a D-1 ncaa qualifier, you're the real deal. even if you go BBQ
