Both events are the same day. Seems like Bellator is trying to take on UFC head on and affect their ratings and PPV buys.

hmm...not sure which fight is more relevant.

Dana shot himself in the foot releasing Bonnar.

Your average fan knows Tito and Bonnar more than they know Cain and Werdum. That's a fact.

the big problem for UFC is the fact of the "casual" fan will rather watch a MMA event free on spike (with known faces as tito and bonnar) rather than paying for one...that will fuck UFC PPV on buyrate

It's a pretty easy decision. You have the greatest fighter at any weight class and a true champion. And he's taking on fellow UFC Hall of Famer, Stephan Bonnar.

I mean, have Cain or Fabricio been inducted into any Halls of Fame? Didn't think so.

Very liberal translation of the word "competing" there..

I might actually not watch Talker vs Bonner, just because I don't want to encourage things in MMA. I'll still watch Bellator, and some of the fights coming up mean every MMA fan should, but I might skip that one.. Especially with a real (er) fight happening the same night.

Well done here.

Nail on the head sir.

Cannot wait to see Tito fight. He is the soul of the UFC, long since departed to greener pastures. It is hard to think of fighter with more heart, certainly not Cain and especially not Werdum, who cannot even take a fight seriously.

Actually casual fan doesn't even know Bellator exist and if they do they know very little if anything about when an event is on.

Cain isn't a draw anyway. Somehow Cain vs JDS 3 did worse than both 2nd and 1st. And his title defense vs Big Foot did pretty avg.

Depending on how Bellator plays its cards it could really affect their prelims and/or main card

Both those PPV did low because they were both rematches of one sided fights, Cain had just smashed both of them so they werent interesting.

They wont be competing for the same audience, UFC will get the mma sports fans and Bellator will be going after the Spike tv Bar Rescue fans.

The guy who isnt ordering the UFC cause he isnt a hardcore fan.

The guy who is sitting around watching TV flips on Spike and sees Tito and thinks I remember him from years ago fighting with that mohawk dude. Who he is fighting? OH yeah that guy who fought that dude named after a branch or a tree, Forrest, thats his name. yeah I remember watching that.

Oh shit and look at this mask thing, they are brawling in the cage and he is talking about his wife. yeah I'm gonna watch this tonight.

Thats the audience Bellator will get that night with Tito/Bonnar.

That means the casual fan likely wasnt buying the UFC PPv anyway so how will it fuck the buyrate?

Cain/Werdum isnt a super fight, its not Ronda/GIna or Anderson/Diaz where you expect large casual fan interest in the event.

Cain/Werdum will likely do in the 350-400k PPV range and be a huge hit in Mexico on tv.

I highly doubt they sell that quantity....i would say the half aprox, in part by Bellator and another hand because currently the UFC PPV sells every day less

So Cain/Werdum is gonna sell 150k buys? TJ/Barao did 200k, both Cains last two fights were rematches nobody wanted to see and both did in the 330-350k range.

People buy PPV based on fights they want to see, there is no trend. Because one PPV like TJ/Soto does bad doesnt mean Anderson/Diaz will also do bad.

Does anyone know why they decided to go head to head with a UFC PPV? Were there no other weekends? What happened to Friday shows? Do they legitimately think going against the UFC will bring them more viewers?

lulz

Man, I hope Bellator gets crushed. I used to sort of hope they could carve out a niche for themselves, but after they started bleeding WWE shit into their product, I hope they fail.
