Tito Ortiz - all time ranking

I think you had a brain fart cause Rampage is missing. : ) I agree he's around 10th though.
Good call.

Rampage had some of the best wins of that Era. KOed Chuck twice before and after Chuck's best streak, beat Hendo in a bout technically called a PrideFC/UFC unification, powerbombed prime Arona.

Rampage when he was training with Juanito and he had that high guard crisp tight boxing style is one of the best versions of any LHW up to that point.

In terms of fighting ability, in the top 25-30 at LHW all time.

In terms of legacy and influence he has to be considered in the top 10, he was the man for a while albeit when nobody was watching the sport.

When Ken handed the baton to him as the most famous NHB fighter on the planet it was a pivotal moment in the sports development.

And when he handed it to Chuck is when the sport headed to the mainstream.

I still to this day think that Tito putting Lyoto in a triangle made me yell the loudest at a TV while watching MMA.
Tito/Bader was crazy too. For me I probably yelled too loud at the TV for Wand/Jardine.

I dont really rate him.

He's a really tough guy but his wins for the most part arent that impressive.

Interviewer: "Tell me who is Tito Ortiz

Tito Ortiz: " A fighter, actor, businessmen, entrepreneur, panantrapist...

Panantrapist....he truly is one of a kind.

But in all seriousness def Top 10 205er of all time!

Love the Tito jokes.

He had a dominant run in UFC when the best guys were in PrideFC which makes it hard to rank him. His win over Wandy before Wandy went on a tear in Pride makes it interesting. That's his best win IMO and it's a big one, Wandy was 22-1-1 (1nc) in that stretch of time and Tito handed him the only loss.

His 1-7-1 run from UFC 66-148 really hurts his case. He was 31 when it started.

He had 5 title defenses but really not particularly strong competition

Yuki Kondo - Pancrase Champ, very experienced, arguably best defense

Evan Tanner future UFC MW Champ

Elvis Sinosec (was 1-5 in UFC as I recall)

Vladimir Matushenko - good fighter, aside from Vernon white he really only lost to great/fairly elite guys.

Ken Shamrock (Tito beat Ken 3x in a 1-7 stretch for Ken).

Also factor Titos record against the best LHWs in UFC in his era:

0-2 vs Chuck with a pulse, both tkos

0-1 vs Randy (though Randy clearly tapped)

1-0 split decision win over Vitor

I would rank him behind

Jon Jones
Wandy
Shogun
Chuck
DC
Machida
Hendo*
Randy**

* Hendo has better wins at 205/overall Shogun x2, Wandy for PrideFC title, Vitor, Babalu
+ Fedor & Nog (HW) and Bisping (MW)

**Randy beat Tito head to head and had a better overall career imo, but a lot of that was HW, so I could see the argument on the other side.

I guess that leaves Tito at #9 for me.
Great breakdown, I’d probably throw Rampage in there ahead of him as well but that’s about it.

He lost fights to Randy, Chuck, Rashad, Lil Nog, Machida and Forrest. But he has wins over Wanderlei, Forrest, Vitor, Sonnen, Tanner, Vlady and Bader.

As a legend he's top ten for sure. But based on his career he barely makes top 20.

He beat Forest as well. They were 1-1.

I always liked his post-prime/post-championship career, he was still a really solid veteran. But average champion, I have him around #10.

I would put Jon Jones, Wanderlei, Chuck, Lyoto, Shogun, Cormier, Couture, and Rampage higher than him, but somewhere near Hendo and Frank Shamrock.
Maybe i'm forgetting someone. Don't tell me Rashad, i put him behind Tito. And i hate Vitor

Edit : Do we consider Sakuraba a LHW ? If so, he is of course in front of Tito

Its kind of sad how older fighters are discredited. Boxing fans wouldn't say Muhammad Ali would get rekt by Fury and call him a nobody. Yet here we get this from lots of the greats.

Did you just compared Muhammad Ali with Tito?
Holly shit dude

His draw with Rashad Evans, close fights with Forrest, and decent showing against Lyoto shows that he wasn't that far behind in terms of skill.

I wouldn't have ranked Tito highly at all except for the amazing performances he put on in his later career. I thought he was a man in the right place and time for his limited skillset, expecting his career resurgence to go like Frank Shamrock's in Strikeforce, but Tito did not get his ass beat down as soon as he stepped in the ring with a modern fighter. In fact, he beat their asses -- and put on a damn good showing even when he lost.

I definitely didn't give Tito enough respect during his reign, but he really opened my eyes towards the end of his career. He was a really good fighter.

Well not directly. Tito isn't Ali by any means, but I'm just saying how you can overlook old skillsets by comparing them to modern times.

Tito Ortiz ranks anywhere top 10-15 sounds about right at light heavyweight. He made a huge impact in early UFC days that brought a ton of attention during dark days of UFC before Fertitta brothers purchased UFC. I'm far from a fan of his but he is a pioneer of the sport.

Easily my GOAT

idk what happens to the company without chuck tito

im sure some company would have tapped into it but idk if other companies can get away with being as stingy and unethical as fana
