Tito Ortiz - all time ranking

Its kind of sad how older fighters are discredited. Boxing fans wouldn't say Muhammad Ali would get rekt by Fury and call him a nobody. Yet here we get this from lots of the greats.

As a fighter he was one of the best, but he is so dumb it doesn't seem right to induct a retard in the HOF

Prime Tito literally runs through this Jiri, Glover, Hill era with his power double and GNP.

And if you don’t agree with me then you are clearly a casual.
UFC needs to bring back "Face the Pain".

P4P greatest cracked skull fighter of the night.

Realistically top 15.

Tito is criminally underrated round here. OG pioneer who was monumental in getting the sport to where it is today. 5x defending champ. Fan friendly and chill dude who is a fucking wizard on the mic.

Mad hespect.

1 of the best LHWs of the night, no doubt about it

He's like Matt Hughes at WW where he accomplished a lot but it's hard to place him above any of the modern greats. To his credit he evolved with the sport to an extent and stuck around a long time.

He should be ranked above Wanderlai.
We agree often, but I disagree with everything you just said in that post lol

Tito owns a more prominent place in the history of the sport by being the face of UFC

Well, if we're ranking them this way, Li'l Nog has the face of one of the greatest HWs of all time.

Love the Tito jokes.

He had a dominant run in UFC when the best guys were in PrideFC which makes it hard to rank him. His win over Wandy before Wandy went on a tear in Pride makes it interesting. That's his best win IMO and it's a big one, Wandy was 22-1-1 (1nc) in that stretch of time and Tito handed him the only loss.

His 1-7-1 run from UFC 66-148 really hurts his case. He was 31 when it started.

He had 5 title defenses but really not particularly strong competition

Yuki Kondo - Pancrase Champ, very experienced, arguably best defense

Evan Tanner future UFC MW Champ

Elvis Sinosec (was 1-5 in UFC as I recall)

Vladimir Matushenko - good fighter, aside from Vernon white he really only lost to great/fairly elite guys.

Ken Shamrock (Tito beat Ken 3x in a 1-7 stretch for Ken).

Also factor Titos record against the best LHWs in UFC in his era:

0-2 vs Chuck with a pulse, both tkos

0-1 vs Randy (though Randy clearly tapped)

1-0 split decision win over Vitor

I would rank him behind

Jon Jones
Wandy
Shogun
Chuck
DC
Machida
Hendo*
Randy**

* Hendo has better wins at 205/overall Shogun x2, Wandy for PrideFC title, Vitor, Babalu
+ Fedor & Nog (HW) and Bisping (MW)

**Randy beat Tito head to head and had a better overall career imo, but a lot of that was HW, so I could see the argument on the other side.

I guess that leaves Tito at #9 for me.

I think you had a brain fart cause Rampage is missing. : ) I agree he's around 10th though.

Tito can only be ranked on a nightly basis. Tonight, he was the greatest.

I've never liked Tito because of his lay n pray style back in the day and his constant excuses for the past 15+ years. But with that being said, at his peak, he had a very solid wrestling game and serviceable striking. Tito shouldve retired after his 2nd loss to Chuck imo

Putting him in the top 10-13 is a fair assessment in my book

I'd say that there's a good chance that the UFC might not exist today if not for Tito carrying the banner during the dark ages before it was bought by the Fertitas.

I got Tito as high as #6 abd as low as 8. This is based on his historical accomplishments and his run of dominance during his peak. Alot of people like to crap on Tito but the fact is he was the consensus #1 LHW in the world for several years, was the UFC LHW Champion, and had 5 title defenses.

Tito doesn't have the strongest wins but he does have several ranked wins and some very good wins when put in context. His wins over Wanderlei, Vitor, and Mezger are all legitimately top tier wins. His wins over Forrest, Matyushenko, and Ryan Bader all hold up historically. Then he has ranked wins over Jerry Bohlander, Yuki Kondo, and Evan Tanner which were valuable wins at the time he beat them even if they seem unimpressive today. His draw with Rashad Evans, close fights with Forrest, and decent showing against Lyoto shows that he wasn't that far behind in terms of skill.

I have him definitely behind Jones, Chuck, Wanderlei, Shogun, and Rampage. I think you could make an argument for Lyoto and Rashad over him as well. But after that his place is pretty secure. DC, Hendo, & Couture were obviously a better fighters but had less wins, less titles, and a shorter run at the top. Guys like Lil Nog and Arona never made it to the top of the division and were never champions.

Ruled a weak division with limited skillset but help get the UFC through dark times.
