News Titanic Tours Submersible missing in atlantic ocean

turns out the US Coast Guard/ Navy knew the submarine imploded last Sunday.

yup, and that is why the told rescue teams to go look over in that spot “we heard something that sounded like an implosion, it might be the crew you are looking for and might not be but you should go check before we tell everyone they are dead”.

pretty normal stuff

I’m calling him an asshole now for letting the families go through false hope.
Seriously though, I want to know where he got the information about the weights being released from.

It seems like that came from inside the deep diving community. The only real information would have had to come from someone onboard the tender ship who might have commented to colleagues. Otherwise it was pure speculation. Over time we might find out more about how the Titan sub was designed to work or they might not provide any information.

Ok he wasn’t certain so why is he now saying the whole search and rescue was a nightmarish charade?

He might believe that now that his initial suspicions were proven true. Even if he was 99% sure, it's not something you stick your neck out and dash the hopes of the families and friends, without total confirmation.

Now that the debris field has been found he knows he was right from the beginning.

I love me some Logitech, use it all over my house.

but I’m still not going to agree with the way this guy went around building his submarine, no matter the company or companies he went through to build it.

I mean hell, Logitech might have thought this guy wanted them to build him a controller for submarine simulator, not an actual submarine..

It appears that Logitech wasn't involved in building a controller for the sub. Stockton Rush just bought a standard controller the way anybody can.

I was right from the beginning too.
It’s odd he was silent until it was over and he could go take the media tour and say he was right all along. Maybe his publicist told him to stay quiet until afterwards.

That’s the impression I got from everything that has come out up to now.

that is why I was saying people don’t have issues with military using gaming controllers for drones because they have contracts and take that kind of thing seriously.

this sub captain just modified his own because it was cheaper then installing an onboard system.

Why there was still a huge search for the missing sub even though the Navy learned quickly that it probably imploded

So why did the Coast Guard still launch a vast search-and-rescue operation?

In a statement Thursday, the Navy said its data had not been definitive — leaving open the possibility that someone was still alive.

Man what a sad story.

Rush, while dead himself, is responsible for this catastrophe due to sheer pig headed ignorance that he mistook for creativity and entrepreneurship.

Hope that company gets sued into oblivion, and lessons are learned by moronic know it alls who actually know nothing.

Yea its weird. 4 days of searching and then 2 hours after oxygen runs out they find the wreckage right where they lost communication.

Well they didnt have the capability of a diving robot looking for pieces of evidence like that. They looked for a sub in need of rescue and expanded the search area according to their calculations. I wouldnt criticize that but imo its damn impressive how fast they reacted and were capable of delivering the equipment and logistics. Compare that with f.e. the Kursk disaster.

makes you wonder about those missing planes too

according to James Cameron he says rule 101 in search and rescue is go straight to the point of last communication.

I mean, if you lose your keys you go back from the last point you knew you have them, not 10 miles away

How in the actual fuck was this operation allowed to run without any means to recover it in the event of an accident?

Watching his interviews I get the feeling he spoke out now because he feels the concerns raised and warnings given about the engineering need to be discussed and known. Also the French crew member was Cameron's friend.

Reddit making the incident a social class warfare. If they feel used by corporations, they should start by boycotting them.

They did. They were able to find the wreck within an hour of getting the rov on the ocean floor.
There’s no authority to say they aren’t allowed to launch a sub

The gist of what he said is that it is more resistant to such fatigue. He states that you can do hundreds of dives with steel...not infinite dives.

And when steel/metals fail, they will generally give noticeable warmings - deformations or aocustic noises. When carbon fiber fails, it is sudden and catastropic (no pun intended). Apparently there are more advanced pre-launch inspections that can be done to verify the integirty of the material, but I doubt these guys cared

Well I do trust a little more in experts who are doing this job for years than a movie produced and hobby explorer. They looked for a submarine with sonar and whatever there is out there with technical procedures and definitely covered that area. Maybe that couldnt pick up pieces of a sub on the ocean floor . They focused on accident possibilities were they could help like at the surface..etc. . Would you have used precious time, with such a time sensitive operation, to confirm they are dead when there is a possibility they are suffocating to death somewhere you might have reached them?

We did that for carbon racing bikes. Back then they told us the only way to detect something is with computed tomography CT so its quite expensive but possible.

I'm surprised that you're struggling with this.

James' comments about the nightmarish charade is referring to the media doing what the 24/7 news media does - sensationalizing a story so they can get eyeballs on their content. Perhaps it is his opinion that the information he had, which was likely shared by people on the vessels participating in the search, should have been made public so the endless speculation would stop and any false hopes would be stamped out.

That is not his call.
