Yea, plus don't they have to decompress from that depth? Pulling them up fast because they are running out of oxygen could kill them couldn't it?

Those type submersibles are designed to sink basically, they don't use any power while going down then when they get to the desired depth they power up to move around. If they had a power failure they could still manually release ballast to rise back to the top, but it appears they haven't. So simply attributing this to a power outage doesn't make sense. Catastrophic hull failure, however, would have killed them all instantly at a depth of 12,500 feet.

Yeah that would crush everything including the occupants in less time than it takes to say oh shit.

Sad when you think about it, especially considering there were concerns about the vessel.

Yup. Looks like they're just out of time. I hope they find it to give the families some closure and investigate what happened but any sliver of a rescue is most likely over unless they miraculously find them in the morning

well folks..... here's some (apparent) good news.

apparently during today, sonar detectors detected "banging sounds" from underwater, at intervals of approx 30mins.
so... IF that's true and the source is one of the men banging on the inside of the submersible.... then it has not imploded or sprung a leak and there's at least 1 still alive, and maybe all of them still alive.
I'd hope they can have multiple sonar-devices underwater and triangulate the sound to determine it's location. That would be the obvious tactic i'd think.

"RCC Halifax launched a P8, Poseidon, which has underwater detection capabilities from the air," the DHS e-mails read. "The P8 deployed sonobuoys, which reported a contact in a position close to the distress position.
