News Titanic Tours Submersible missing in atlantic ocean

I don't get why this is a such a big deal in the news. A bunch of rich people paying to do something that they had to sign a waiver over because it was so dangerous.

if you can't figure it out then I envy you. life must be so exciting. just walking around like a golden retriever.

Dude, this thread has 80 freaking pages. Apparently people are finding this more captivating than it should be.

What is your genius theory? Because it is being used to cover up something else?

Carbon fiber is not cheap...
It’s cheaper than Titanium though correct? Doing some research the guy cut corners on cost with a material not rated for multiple trips.

He wasn’t even making a profit by trying to promote to thousandaires as much as billionaires. Charging at least a million per person could have gotten a better sub to build a foundation on. Instead he probably ended anyone ever wanting to risk going that deep ever again but scientists.

Sounded like he was full of himself boasting he's too advanced for normal conventions and standards. Experts said sphere is strong and he uses dildo shape. Experts say steel and he uses carbon fiber where the glue degrades the layers. You'd think they'd use a material that isn't compromised after each use.

He fired the “50 year old white guys” who advised him of the dangers. Rich, out of touch billionaires are just determined to get woke, go broke.

So you find out how not captivating this thread is and that it is too big by ranting several posts into the thread after reading through it <Lmaoo> You seem to be a little at the lower end of the iq scale :D

To help you out why people are interested in this: unknown origin of failure, dramatic rescue operation with clock ticking, about deep sea exploring which has a mystery like space travel. This part of our world is only very little explored, Titanic tragedy burned into our memories.

These are only some of the reasons .

Nobody knows, but this guy might've just popped open the door or someshit down there and went "Fuck you fuckers, show ends here" and then just imploded it himself.

I don't think it's cheaper than steel.

Can confirm.

Titanium is much more expensive than steel, but everything on a deep-sea submarine should be custom-machinined from a very specific mill-spec range.

So absolutely everything on a deep-sea submarine should be insanely expensive, so I doubt titanium for that purpose would be much more significantly less expensive.

The main desirable quality in titanium is the light weight for the comparative strength of metal. Some grades of steel are actually stronger than titanium, but they're also comparable to the weight of gold.

Heavy weight is not a desirable factor in a submarine.

Titanium and steel aren't as inspirational as papier mache and eggshells though. Don't fuck with my innovation bro.

Say you haven't paid close attention to the story without saying you haven't paid close attention to the story....

...but still feel the need to give your opinion to those that have paid close attention to the story.

Yeah, and its amazing the submarine went down to the Titanic and returned more than a few times without serious incident.

Perhaps such 'inspirational' materials could be used in other means of transportation-exploration.

it's fascinating on a lot of fronts, we didn't know for sure if they were dead but were damn sure they would be soon and what that must be like. It's terrifying, can't imagine a worst way to go than slowly running out of oxygen with no help from anywhere, the implosion was a merciful end for them and better than the alternatives. I think we also like stories where the odds of a positive outcome are slim and we watch in hope. Then.., there's the fact of how loony the whole thing sounds, why in the fuck would anyone do it? Then, for some of us, there is the near mystical belief that the titanic was cursed and anyone fucking around with it might be playing with fire.

there was a woman I heard of in a docu who was a titanic passenger and she spoke for many of us who hear something like "unsinkable" and think that that sort of hubris is tempting god or the fates or whatever you want to call it. These people must have had some of that same sort of hubris and it had a similar end. Why humans have such a hard time realizing how small and powerless they really are in the scheme of things never ceases to amaze me.

The Challenger had plenty of people blowing the whistle before it blew up too. Thinking positive is only harmless when it comes to things that don't have dangerous consequences but we've all been indoctrinated with that bullshit of thinking positive and realizing "the secret" but it's dangerous sometimes.

There is no doubt that older people, of any persuasion are usually less optimistic and less energetic about things. People get let down so many times and they just get old but you still cannot beat experience. I remember a cop coming to the UW and telling the students that there was no way that they could get a degree and be as good a detective as someone who learned over the years, that might be inconcievable for people who have just been told they are so smart since they were yay high, but those people are very dangerous in action. Not just in a field like that but any field that has real serious consequences. I've known plenty myself who were too goddamned sure of themselves when they didn't know nearly enough and they cover it up by being pushy, positive and aggressive. They don't mean to hurt people but they do.

Wow I listened to the father son pair that Rush tried to convince going on the trip but didn't do it for safety concerns. Rush brushed them of belittling them and behaved like a con man. This would have happened either way at some point. An egomaniac who had no problems putting others into dangerous situations while lying to them and himself about the risks. The opposite of what you want as an engineer.
