His comment is being miscontrued. It looks like what he meant was that he wanted fresh new desingers / explorers rather than stay with the traditioal old guard. If you look at his crew, head of the company and pilot, they all are older White guys. This guy - Stockton Rush - seems to give caution to the wind and just wants get on with doing things, so it seems like he was looking for 'rebel' designers/engineers who won't be as safety conscious and industry standard engineers / designers would be.

Which is an incredible stupid comment by him and means he had not done any proper research. . How anyone trusted him is a mystery. He deliberate ignored experts with decades of experience trying to help or fired them, and his testing method was just going for tourist dives with over the counter trash material. Hubris ,agenda and money hungry is a bad combination.

I read the German customers Report about the dive and wow what a fucked up incompetent guy Rush is. They repaired broken of stuff with freaking zip ties and went again with malfunction after malfunction.

That number is an estimate based on the best of conditions, and if they can manage to utilize every single reserve of oxygen they have(Oxygen tanks and whatnot). They're not just chillin' and waiting. It's likely too late already, unfortunately.

There are recordings of the last conversations with him while he was trapped, and I made the mistake of listening to him beg his sister to get him out. Yes, I think it's an insane, suicidal hobby, but the Thai kids made me revisit my position. If not for these maniacs playing suicidal games we wouldn't have the experts who were able to get those kids out.

When I was four I was playing hide and seek with some local kids. I hid in a trunk and they knew where I was, and they locked the trunk and left me there. I was there for hours until my mother found me and I've been terrified of closed spaces ever since.

Years later I was playing with some kids in the winter. We'd built snow forts and they'd dug a tunnel between them, and knew I wouldn't go into the tunnel because I was scared. They talked me into it because I didn't want them to think I was chicken, and when I got half way they collapsed the tunnel on me.

2 of the guys who saved those kids died and were not cave divers, but military guys. Who the fuck thinks its good to go into caves that are 4 inches above water level right beside a body of water and obviously flood all the time in Monsoon season?

But... These are just approximations.
If there's less than 5 people still alive... The air lasts longer for the remaining people.
