I do not mind tipping if I’m sitting down to eat.. what I don’t like is anywhere you walk into now asks if you want to tip when paying. Sorry but if I’m hitting up a joint like potbelly’s I’m not tipping. Pay your fucking employees more rather than attempting to guilt the customer into openly hitting ‘no tip’ on the fucking card display in front of said employee.


It sets up a weird entitlement imo where the employee may wind up holding a grudge against repeat customers even tho the employee should see this for what it really is. The company doesn’t want to pay them so they’d rather pull a fast one and leverage the customer to do it for them.

It doesn't have to be about a percentage though does it, I don't think I've ever tipped less than £5 if I was tipping anything. If I was buying something for a tenner I'd have no problem leaving another five pounds

I rarely eat out but if I do I tip well, and it's not because I'm wealthy, I'm not, just sharing the love.

There was a time when you could tell the proprietor that their food or coffee was fantastic and they'd really appreciate it, now they just think shut the fuck up and leave me some money. I can't remember the last time I had service with a smile from someone that genuinely backed their product

I stopped tipping a year ago when i realized half the servers are some of the highest paid people in the working class. guess what? nothing changed. literally nothing. except i have more money. no one EVER cared about the (significant) amount of money i basically wasted on tips, i realized. no one's gonna be your friend for a 5. its a waste. tip the people who actually work like fast food workers not the pretty girl who stands there.

yeah those times are over, stop the tips, stop it, it's so stupid, servers make more than mid level white collar workers in most places with lots of guests. They don't care, your tip doesn't make them care, they will immediately forget and if they do something nice for you or give you free food their boss will yell at them. you get NOTHING.

we all need to vote with our wallets and either bring back REAL service or no tip at all. This restuarant culture is a joke, they don't even serve. you have to tip to get a smile. its terrible.

Who orders chicken soup at a Mexican place?

On a $10 order with takeout chips and salsa I think $5 is the minimum tip. I went to my regular Mexican place last week. I always have the same waitress. The bill was $71 and I tipped $25.

OF COURSE. but for what end? she isn't gonna you know be my friend or talk to me because i gave her a $20 instead of a $5. either a girl likes you or she doesn't. giving a stranger some money to pull favors is a waste of money imo.

its different here in the states, bartender is BY FAR the best job a woman can have in college. you can and do make $500 a night for a weekend. you can make $1500 a week easy if you have looks at all or even just a pulse sometimes. vs what, 400 a week working 30 hours at a student job. its crazy money. guarantee the white collar worker and the bartender are far closer than the 'tip economy' would leave you to believe.

yes there are broke servers. but any server at a decent or just not terrible restaurant is making 5X what the cook does and the same as a mid level business person IMO.

Yes, don't tip more because you are attracted to them. Just tip a percentage of what the meal cost based on the quality of the service, imo.

They seem to like it. First I pour the salsa over the chips, then I layer the 3 tortillas on top of it with salsa in between each layer so everything is saturated in the salsa. Salsa is just tomatoes, onion, pepper, and spices, all of which they can eat. It's not super spicy but I don't think it'd be an issue if it was.
