Tipping complaint

Who orders chicken soup at a Mexican place? :p

On a $10 order with takeout chips and salsa I think $5 is the minimum tip. I went to my regular Mexican place last week. I always have the same waitress. The bill was $71 and I tipped $25.

Chicken tortilla soup. Its pretty bomb tbh and popular. If a place does it right people order the shit out of it.

Anyway, i know when i was waiting tables alot of times when its really busy each table you have is a money maker. You usually only have 6 tables or so. So it kinda sucks if someone comes and takes up a table in your section for 30 minutes and only tips $3 or whatever. But still, thats part of the game and if you let shit like that bother you then youre gonna be a miserable person.

OK, Chicken Tortilla soup makes since. I've never ordered it but I've eaten it before.

Hell, I had a lady at the McDonald's drive thru window ask me if I wanted to leave a tip. Pizza Hut asked for one during a carry out.

Just give these people a swirly next time.

I would be more pissed about paying $10 for a bowl of SOUP, then the entitled waitress.

There's a local Mexican restaurant I frequent. I almost always order the same thing, chicken soup. It's $10.00. I'm a regular so most of the staff know me and ask as I sit down,
"Chicken soup and water?"
"Yes please"

Today I had a young lady server who I hadn't seen before. She gives me good service and I tip her the same amount that I always do, $3. It's not a lot but it's still a 30% tip. Growing up, 15% was the standard for a good experience but I think that 20% is now the new normal. $2 tip seems kinda crappy so I always do $3.

I swear that she kinda gave me a sour look on my way out after an otherwise pleasant interaction. How much am I supposed to tip you young lady? $5 which is 50% of the meal? Am I not supposed to sit down for a meal unless I order a minimum amount? I like chicken soup. I find a bowl of it quite satisfying. All the other servers know that I order the $10 chicken soup and I always tip $3. Sometimes I am feeling like a wild man and I order two of them. In those cases, I usually tip $4.

In case this makes a difference, I do always ask for a to go container. Not for the soup, which I always finish, but the chips and salsa which I take home and feed to my chickens. It's included with the meal so why not.

I don't like tipping culture for this reason. Just charge me whatever it costs and I'll be on my way. I don't want to be guilt tripped into overpaying.

In before tldr.
I totally agree with you on the stratusfaction of a chicken soup or soups in general. I sometimes always order soups as my main dish

It's a pretty big bowl of soup and very delicious. There's a lot of chicken meat in there. Plus, I can feed my own chickens with the chips and salsa and there are 3 tortillas included which they also devour.

I am a huge fan of soup too, but i don't care how big the bowl is, i just can't justify paying $10 for SOUP. I can get homemade soup and sandwich with a pickle and potato chips at a Diner for under $10.

I'd like to try your diner but I'm telling you, this soup is pretty great.

When I get ramen it costs $14 and I leave a $20. I get people are broke but if a couple bucks breaks you and you are thinking about it maybe you are too poor to be eating out. Just a thought. Cook at home more

I cook at home but I am fond of this soup. I'm sure that the servers appreciate your tip. It's almost 43% of the cost of your meal.

Tipping/drip pricing/dynamic pricing etc. is one (are three) of many examples why Anarchism/Libertarianism/Don't Tread On Me/The Invisible Hand of the Market don't work. People like to do unpleasant things to others like 🍇, rob, extort, steal, unalive, enslave, and if allowed to that's what they'll do until society is reduced to a wasteland, so you need to make laws and punishments to stop them. Tipping/drip pricing/dynamic pricing should all be banned and punished with bankruptcy-inducing fines. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
30% is a HIGH tip in any country.
If that silly woman doesn't like a 30% tip then she's in the wrong job . Maybe she's completely hopeless at basic math and doesn't realize you actually tipped her 30%.

If that ever happens again, what I'd do if she gives you a funny look is go eight up to her and say " is everything alright??" and make her feel awkward. Maybe add "i always tip 30% in this place as I like it so much, great food". Say it out loud so everyone else can hear you.

Or..... just Stockton Slap the silly ungrateful tart.

^^^ that is ridiculous. You are making it a societal norm for people to have to tip 25 bucks by doing that. The bill should be 71 bucks flat or lets say 75 bucks in a hypothetical world without tips.
Its not ridiculous at all. Some people that eat out aren't cheap and broke. 70 bucks I'd leave an even $100
