Time to institute penalties for late pullouts

Or it could be that most people who pull out doesn't have the choice not to. It's one thing to pull out because you don't feel 100%, or because you can't make the weight cut, it's a totally different thing having to pull out due to a legitimate medical issue.

I would agree with fining fighters who pull out even though they are medically cleared to fight.

People obviously get sick, but it's very obvious most of them are full of shit. These guys either try to cut too much weight or don't take their weight cut seriously and then they get sick or injured and pull out. MMA needs to basically create a USADA for weight cutting, and make sure there are more stringent rules and monitoring to ensure these fighters aren't fucking around anymore.

The fact that is 100% more likely to occur with big fights isn't only embarrassing and telling, but also problematic. When there's more of a chance a major fight gets cancelled than actually happening, something needs to be worked on ASAP.

It's clear by this point all of these late blooming "illnesses" are weight cut related. If the UFC wants to rescue their main event scene they HAVE to institute penalties to discourage these late pullouts.

I personally think fines should be instituted, discouraging these giant weight cuts and discouraging fighters like Nunes from pulling themselves out.

Thoughts?
It's called child support.

I 100% agree. It's totally obvious what is going on. If you pull out within 3 days of the fight they need to take some serious action against you.

I got a buddy that pulled out late and it cost him 200k in college tuition.

So you'd rather someone go into a fight sicker then all fuck, or with a serious injury, and get destroyed in a minute then delay the fight and have it when both are in fighting condition? Sure, that makes a shit tonne of sense

No I said if the Doc doesn't clear them they shouldn't fight. Read.

A lot of medical pullouts can be prevented by proper planning.

And you also implied that Borg's pullout was bullshit. So you don't trust the doctor. So then how do you figure they determine when a doctor is legit and when not? It's not like it was Borg's person physician, it was the UFC doctor. If you say a doctor has a right to pull someone from a fight, you can't really follow up with "Unless I think that particular doctor is lying". It kills your whole fucking argument when the only barometer you have is whether or not you believe the doctor. You either give them the authority or you don't. Can't have both.

So you're mad because you inferred something I never said lol. Rad.

That advice when I told you to read goes double now.

I remember fights going forward if guys didn't make weight , lose 20-50 % of there purse or some shit , I get in a title fight it becomes a non title fight but why are all these fights just straight get canceled I don't know .

Maybe they should do what boxing does sometimes & that's to make sure their fighters aren't 10% over the weight limit 30days out of the fight.

That quote above? That's from your opening post. In a thread started roughly 12 hours after Borg pulled out. Are you saying you really weren't inferring that this was about Borg?

EDIT: Actually, it wasn't Borg's call. He was pulled by the Doctor. Seems odd you would start this thread if it was about Nunes 2 months after her incident happened. Pure coincidence that Borg pulled out shortly before you started this thread?

"late pullouts"

"Yo, baby dont need protection, I'll pull out before I cum."

9 months later you're a baby daddy.

No but nowhere in there does it say that his pullout was BS lol. All I said was that it's clear these pullouts are weight cut related. The quotes are there because we never get any specificity on the "illnesses" so we have to generalise them as just "illnesses".

Reading comprehension is a useful skill in life.

Of course you don't get specifics of the illness, it's called doctor/patient confidentiality. If Dana came out and said "Borg couldn't go because he had the shits" he could get sued to high hell, unless Borg had publicly disclosed the illness first. It's the same reason your employer, if you have one, can ask for a sick note but can't ask for specific details of the illness. It's none of their, or our, fucking business. Weightcut related is pretty open ended, due to the fact that the mere concept of weight cutting leads to an incredibly weakened immune system. Combine that with being around god only knows how many people during fight week, it's honestly surprising we don't see more people get sick on fight week. Doesn't mean they cut too much weight

Agreed, 1000 hours of hard labour at the reebok camps for these ingrates!

The easiest way to get weight cutting under control would be to implement a second weigh-in the day of the fight. A fighter's weight needs to be within say 103% of their weight from the first weigh in, otherwise they are fined.

Borg just went through a full camp, but now won't even get his pathetic show money...AND he should be penalized further? brilliant idea.

/sarcasm
