Time to eat crow about Belal

I don't like to ever kick a man when he's down. Sometimes you can get a good sense of humbling from these threads though. It's a breath of fresh air from the usual rhetoric. And I'll admit I've had to eat crow on more than one occasion.

Yeah he looked decent, better than I thought he would last night, but I'd still fade him against everybody in the top 5, easily

I used to be a hater. Called him impotent, fringe top 10, I said his biggest accomplishment in life was getting poked by Leon.

But I concede that the dude is impressive. Top notch timing on those TDs, very good defense, top shelf gas tank, quality pacing and plays it smart.

I know that he will likely never finish a fight but he is impressive at what he does.

I think he is never getting a TS because non finishing style and generally unlikable, but he is a formidable test to anyone on his way to a title imo.

Yeah i'll have some of that crow

We need more of this in these forums. Ill join you guys for this pot of crow stew.

I never really had much of an opinion of his skills but I did pick Luque to beat him and he got it done so Belal definitely deserves credit for that. His style sure isn’t going to earn him many fans though, it’s pretty brutal to watch IMO.

I don't know, man something is weird about going from having a scrappy fight with Dhiego "KO'd by ancient Matt Brown" Lima, who he couldn't even take down BTW to ragdolling WB and Luque. His recently more shredded physique and back acne also raises some questions

Dude has good takedown game. His striking looked better as well. He's game has been proven against non-wrestlers though and top of ww is full of great wrestlers.

this performace is the one that made you jump on the Belal bandwagon? Running around not doing anything with his TDDs? Ok my guy to each his own.

Not the most exciting but he wins. If these other fighters can't beat him then they need to get better.

Were there really that many people doubting Belal?

Everywhere I looked people gave him a pretty strong shot of winning. As far as I am aware no one doubts his skills. His criticisms are more centered on that he has a boring style and never gets the finish.
People always say this after the fight. But 90% of people picked Luque to win on Tapology and something like 80% of people voted for Luque in the PBP pole on sherdog.
A lot of people can't seem to wrap there head around the fact that rematches literally never play out exactly the same way as they did the first time. The popular pick was Luque by T/KO in round 1 or 2.

He's not the JBG knockout machine Sherdog craves, but his great takedowns, beastly cardio, as well as improving hands, will ensure that he's a very difficult fight

I live grinders and grapplers but Belal bores me to death. He's very good, though.

I'm 100% wrong on my pick I thought he was gonna lose again but I was proven wrong but I'm still stand by my statement that his not champion material. He grinds out bunch of strikers I think he'll lose to burns, khmazat, Colby, usman maybe he can take Leon in a rematch.

He is boring to me but I will give him his dues, his timing and transitions from striking to takedowns is very impressive.

Wow! So many haters on here.

Vicente luque has never been finished in the ufc, this is not an easy guy to finish.

Also when you consider that he koed belal in the first round the first time they fought, this is a huge improvement for belal.

You have to give credit where credit is due, this winning streak is undeniable and he's at most 1 fight away from a title shot.

Those websites are nothing but popularity contests.

Most betting sites had the fight as a near pick'em. Luque was only a slight favorite in most books. Most MMA analysts agreed.

Compare this to situation like Streling/Yan, Belal was given tons of respect as opposed to Sterling who was treated as a deadman walking
