News Tim Sylvia says he’d ‘destroy Francis Ngannou in my prime’

The salt is still strong {<jordan}

Also, Ngannou still beat Gane with an injured knee.

Ngannou was simply too good for Cain and also retired him.
Prime Cain vs. Ngannou might be a toss up. It could look like Cain's first fight with JDS where he got KO'd. But prime Cain could also give him a hellacious beating like the next two JDS fights. Like Stipe's win in the first Ngannou fight at a faster and more violent pace (Cain had the cardio of a MW). And remember how easily Cain pounded out a still-good Bigfoot (not long after Bigfoot finished Fedor).

People shit on Tim way too much here. Honestly probably would've lost to Ngannou, but he was one of the early giant HWs at 6'8 with decent TDD and had power before his injuries. It's no different than saying Shogun sucks for his mixed record in the UFC after a legendary streak in pride.

Sylvia's ground game sucked in 2004, but so did most MMA fighters back then, they didn't have the knowledge and coaches we have today to avoid submission positions. He would've been fine in modern MMA where you just train to escape and avoid those spots. In 2004 you saw everyone getting armbarred on the ground, it's just not a viable meta today.

He turned boring after being champ and having injuries, but had a long ass reach he'd pepper guys to a decision. Before Stipe, he technically was the UFC's greatest HW. We'll never get to see what could've been with him, but he was hard to beat in his prime. One of the reasons Mir and Arlovski blew up in popularity was because they were able to actually catch him and stop him.

*bookmarking and scrolling through this thread to see who agrees with Sylvia so I can know to never take their opinion seriously on anything MMA related*

If Stipe could beat Francis <Wendy01> Why not Tim :p
because stipe beat him with his wrestling and Tim can't wrestle

of course Tim would have next to no chance beating Francis. but I see nothing weird when fighters say this type of stuff. I mean they're elite fighters atop of the game. you need incredible self belief to get there.

i didn't listen to the whole thing. did he mention what happened to his arm? like 5-10 years ago he said the screws from his broken arm surgery were loosening up and he started getting an infection.

I really miss Goober Taylor on here. Lets be honest he was one of the most creative trolls in sherdog history, he could get anyone upset and lead you into hours of back and forth arguing. He knew the subtle right buttons to push haha.

I just hope Goober Taylor and Big Tim are enjoying some burgers and beers together and living the life
Thank God he's not on here anymore for my sake<45> .

Cause I almost always take bait yo or argue, I will go on and on and on haha. One of the reasons why I mostly avoid the war room cause when I go in I'm ah be there all day writing a pamphlet worth of shit even at the dumbest replies :p ha

Maybe he's wrong, but it doesn't matter what you useless lard asses think about what he said.

hahaha you are very lucky you missed Goober Taylor, he was notorious on here, he was in love with Big Tim and every thread and post was about Tim, but if you said 1 word wrong about Tim then Goober Taylor would get you into hours and hours of arguments :D and he was not obvious, he was very subtle but before you know it you would be seriously mad hahaha :D

Tim was like 23-2 in UFC at one point, which is an outstanding record for HW, and I agreed with Goober Taylor that he was a very good fighter, however I didn't agree that he would beat Fedor at that time and Goober was not having it, he got me into an endless argument and I swear he won, because I just had enough and logged off hahah I had a migraine for the rest of the day.

Damn yo I can really put myself in your shoes here <Lmaoo>

Giving me flashbacks of some of the wars I've had on here

Although of course I have never lost an argument ;)

I've never understood the Tim hate either, other than he was just goofy and awkward. He had some bad fights, but everyone did. He definitely had plenty of good ones.

Define prime? I'd give him a 20% chance at any point from 01-06 and 5% chance after that

I'd give Travis a solid shot against Francis as well--but not as much as Tim as Travis had zero defense, whereas Tim fought smartly at range.

Francis is entertaining, but he's extremely overrated.
How you can say that with no one having beaten him or taken his title blows my damn mind. A loss to Stipe that he redeemed? A loss to Lewis in what could have been a no contest for there having literally been no contest? Come on. Enjoy the thought all you’d like. But it’s your dream world exclusively:

I think you’re more experiencing a case of wishful thinking than having any basis in reality. I personally believe Travis Browne would have likely destroyed Sylvia, whose movement was terrible. randy Couture beat Tim in his prime. Try not forget that. And I’m not talking shit about Couture, he was great, but he couldn’t compete with the recently passed generations of heavyweights any better than Fedor could.

Anyway, I’ve given this nonsense thread more than enough attention.

Monson definitely had better BJJ but his wrestling and TDs were in no way on the level of Brock's. Remember, prime Monson lost to Liddell and Forrest Griffin. Even an ancient Dan Severn was able to UD Forrest via his wrestling. And at 6'3" and walking in over 265, Lesnar wouldn't face the same kind of size/leverage mismatch against Tim that Monson did.

I know Brock’s wrestling is light years ahead of pudjianowski’s but I honestly see a fight between lesnar’s and Sylvia back in Sylvia’s prime going similar to that, with lesnar’s flinching with every jab landing on him causing him to shoot from far away and gassing

Tim was a decent Heavy in his prime. Beat Gan Mcgee, Ricco Rodriguez, Much younger Arlovski, Monson, Whithead, And several other mid level guys. It isn't out of the realm of possibilities that Tim gets his stick jab going followed by an occasional solid right hand and wins a decision. Francis hits like a truck, but he has had some bad fights where he isn't able to land his power, and it goes to a lackluster decision.

I do. Expect him to be more grounded at his age. It’s too bad.
They are competitors. Even the humble guys who say this stuff in public aren't humble in their own personal lives. These guys aren't really martial arts. They are fighters. This sport isn't quite grounded in the martial arts spirit. You will see scumbags in the gym all the time.
