Since the original video (tickling slow loris) came out their popularity as pets exploded. They saw a huge surge in poaching as a result, since they do poorly in captivity and the mortality is so high. They need to take a lot to get a few to make it.

Is it illegal to own them? Or just poor knowledge on the owners?

Depends on where you are, it's illegal in many countries (doesn't stop people) but usually it's poor knowledge. They are a difficult species to work with in zoos that strive to make things as natural as possible let alone in someone's bedroom.

i saw a documentary on these a couple of years ago. the shit they go through from the poachers is disgusting,all so the tourist trade plays into it with westerners having pictures taken in the street with them. if memory serves haven't people died from these things?

This came up recently In the animal thread but I thought it deserved it's own thread. Many people have seen the slow loris videos where the animals are being tickled or holding onto a tiny umbrella. These aren't cute at all and actually show stress responses from the animals. There are some really good videos about this online.

A few questions:
1. Does petting them equal torture, or just tickling them in their armpits. Dead serious, I'm curious.
2. How much do they cost? The reason I'm asking is, wouldn't buying them and turning them in be more humane than letting them die or be tortured? I know it only supports the industry, but what are the options for the captive Slow Loris'.

They literally want nothing to do with human interaction.
They cost a decent amount and there are multiple organizations that work on rescuing and rehabbing them. But it gets really tricky with them being in a foreign country
