Three Time UFC Champion

With Izzy trying to regain the MW champion for the 2nd time this weekend. I'm wondering how many other 3-time champions there have been in the UFC? The only other one I can think of is Randy Couture who was a 3-time HW champion (5 overall if you count his 2 LHW championships). Stipe could do it if he beats Jones and regains the HW championship.

I guess that depends if you consider getting a title win turned into an NC because of popping as losing the belt.

Beat Hughes (1) after losing the first fight
Lost to Serra (tapped to strikes)
Beat Serra (2)

Won a Bs decision against Hendricks… then quit before giving the man a rematch - would’ve been relevant had the decision been correct and he won the rematch that never happened.

And then came out of retirement to win a fight he knew he’d win against Bisping (3) - then quit again before he had to defend against a real opponent.

Clear three time champion though, no?

So if we're talking multiple weight classes, then that does bring in GSP and Nunes. GSP lost to Sera then regained, then also beat Bisping at 185. Numes win the 135 and 145, then lost the 135 and won it back. But, the women's 146 has never really been considered a real weight class. As far as Jones, well he did get stripped of the LHW title, then won it back. Later won the HW title, so he could be considered too.

This exact situations never really played out before. Who knows if a guy is ever going to lose his belt, win it back, and lose it again in his next fight only to be granted another instant rematch.

3 time champion usually just means you lost it twice instead of being good enough to retain it
