Blake Lively is the latest celebrity caught in the middle of a swirling Internet controversy, thanks to an image she posted to her Instagram, picturing herself from the front and the back at the Cannes Film Festival.

“L.A. face with an Oakland booty,” she captioned the pic.

The line comes from Sir-Mix-a-Lot’s throwback hit “Baby Got Back.”

An attempt at making a joke turned to a full-out war in the comments (over 16,000 strong now) on Lively’s post, with users accusing her of racism and cultural insensitivity, since she quoted a song celebrating the bodies of women of color as a white woman.

“Unbelievably problematic, using women of color’s bodies as a joke. I guess you just want people to know you’re racist and you don’t give a s••t,” one commenter wrote.

“Used to like you Blake … turns out you support rapists and appropriate black culture #unfollowed,” someone else added.

But it wasn’t all bad. Many people rushed to Lively’s defense in the comments.

“Get a grip everyone … just a song quote,” one person pointed out.

“Clearly a joke, but could have been more thought out,” another mentioned.

“You all understand you are getting upset over a caption that is actually just song lyrics, right?” a confused follower wrote.

We doubt that Lively was doing anything other than making a mom joke (the song is from 1992!) that fell flat for some people. The song she quoted was, as Sir-Mix-a-Lot mentioned in an interview, inspired by Jennifer Lopez’s Fly Girl-era booty.

J.Lo is a Bronx native, but we can conclude, given the context of the song and the high, round, bubbly, pert booty the Lord saw fit to bless Lopez with, that the only way Lively would ever have an Oakland booty is if her booty were actually in Oakland.

The actress is currently pregnant and was likely just making a joke about her figure becoming slightly curvier as a result. And she looks great! But was her comment problematic? We guess that’s for you to decide.
