I always thought it didn't sound like something she said, but all I know about her is that she was fragile and apparently not too bright. ya, marilyn had her quote and women of later generations like Janet Jackson and Madonna had female empowering songs like "Nasty Boys" or "Express Yourself" which give really unrealistic ideals for women and men. It's also just what happens when powerful men get ahold of something they want, they don't ever treat it right whether it's a music manager, an athlete's manager or a pimp, same difference.
