I always thought it didn't sound like something she said, but all I know about her is that she was fragile and apparently not too bright. I watched a docu that opined that she was a mental case all the way up to her death so maybe that's what she's referring to. I'm not sure if she ever demanded men treat her right.

this is a classic overused quote in many women's online dating profiles going back 15-20 plus years lmao

edit: nothing against OP
ya, marilyn had her quote and women of later generations like Janet Jackson and Madonna had female empowering songs like "Nasty Boys" or "Express Yourself" which give really unrealistic ideals for women and men. A man can do everything right and still end up with a pissed off bitch on the other end or even just doing his best might not be enough. Just nasty.

Drug addled narcissism.

Also, dear diary...
Marilyn always sounds like a pathetic figure to me, a sad life. It's also just what happens when powerful men get ahold of something they want, they don't ever treat it right whether it's a music manager, an athlete's manager or a pimp, same difference. For whatever reason, which I mainly do not understand, those sorts of men seem to have a seeming supernatural ability to get themselves in position to misuse others.

yup, on the other hand, I've had some female relatives who had absolutely no standards at all. Everyone should bring something to the table because life is hard.

Pretty silly. It wasn't actually Marilyn Monroe, but it's one of the many quotes party girls with a zillion failed relationships think sound wise or empowering whenever they get dumped or rejected for being a cunt.

In practice, it's a major red flag, and should come with a "translate" button below it that says what it really means, "I'm a terrible person with 0 desire to fix any of my horrible qualities, but I'll have sex with you if you subject yourself to misery until we inevitably break up or divorce and I start throwing shit and slash your tires".

Whenever I see anything about Norma Jeane Baker, I can't help but think about that film of her sucking on the D that some collector bought to "keep it from going public." That dude's gotta be jerking it on the reg 8MM style.

Strong 0/10.

"If you allow yourself to be 'at your worst,' then you sure as hell don't deserve anyone when you're at your best."

That's better.

To be fair, Monroe had to deal with a lot of stupid shit in her life, so I don't hold a silly quote against her.

Awful... so many thoughtless assholes of both male and female variety, use that last bit as justification for their shitty behaviour.

Is there proof or is that just a rumor?
