News Thoughts on the New DWCS Signings from Week One?

Future champs, all of them.

In 5 years time we'll look back on DWCS season 7 episode 1 as the turning point in the way MMA has been approached thus far. We're heading into a new era.
This week is pretty slim pickings outside of George Hardwick btw. Maybe Hyder Amil can become a solid roster member too.
Maybe one of the girls can turn out good, but aside from that I can't see much success for any of the guys for this week's show, even Hardwick.

Both George and Hyder have the misfortune of fighting in two of the toughest divisions talent and rankings wise, so it's very likely they'll end up getting lost in the shuffle.

George is a beast imo. In terms of UK lightweights he'd smash Paddy tomorrow.

Borjas I don't think is that good, TDD not great and his striking is pretty rudimentary, does throw hard though.

Borjas beat the best opponent, who trains at ATT and who the champion of the division said was top 10 in the world, yet he is not that good?

Dias is a pretty gassy grappler who was a can crusher in Titan. I don't care what Pantoja thinks about his friend

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. DWCS will be the reason UFC dies.

Kick out the expensive good fighters and replace them with regional level talent on the lowest paying contracts you’ll ever see. It’s a good way to save money now but long term it will make room for competitor orgs to have the better fighters bc UFC isn’t willing to pay for a better overall product.

It's always been like this, ever since they expanded the roster in 2013 they've filled the roster out with regional guys.

I'm sorry but after watching that video his ceiling is barely above the floor. Dude's stiff as a board with zero defense and is just "standing and banging" with other cans.

I know a lot of people are going to be upset by this but the Contender Series fucking blows. It's crazy so few people can actually see that it's being used to sign cheap "entertaining" filler so that the average fan can drone on about "bangers."

There are so many better prospects and fighters out there than this shit.
Meanwhile, here in reality, there are about 25 fighters from the contender series currently ranked in the UFC.

Yeah, the UFC's downfall will be letting guys like Ryan Bader go to Bellator, while they scout for top talent/stars like Sean O'Malley through the contender series.

All the while Sherdoggers can be heard in the background screaming, "REEE, Sean O'malley isn't even good! Why are the UFC hyping up this cantender series hype job lol? Everyone knows O'Malley sucks and will lose as soon as he fights a top opponent. REEE"

There is literally no better way for the UFC to ensure its future than by scouting the top talent through a mechanism like the contender series.

You know much about probability, slugger? When the entire roster is filled with them what exactly are you expecting? Sure, once in a while a decent fighter comes out of it but on the whole, they are not very good.

I know your thing is to defend this nonsense and pretend like you know everything but this is obviously nowhere near the best talent in the world. This is a simple way to ensure they can pay 10/10 and fool simple targets like you.

I think you are being hard on him because he hasn’t won any regional titles, fought for many respectable regional promotions, or faced the highest level of competition.

I see a high-level striker with ridiculously fast hands, great reflexes, and natural punching power. If he can develop elite TD defense like his teammate Jesus Pinedo, he can make a run in the division.

He looks like a more athletic Kai Kara-France to me.

We'll see I guess, I doubt he'll ever be ranked personally but I'm open to being proven wrong.

Tom Nolan is the only one that impressed me, his ground game still needs to be tested. Machado stands out as the one who belongs the least.

That Talbott kid looks like a dollar store version of OMalley without the tattoos and the rainbow hair

The problem is that as a publicly traded company already under antitrust attention, the UFC needs to watch its expenses. There are state sponsored promotions in Russia and the middle East as well as money laundering fronts like ONE FC driving up the prices for talent and the ufc doesnt want to get into a bidding war. The good thing about dwcs talent is that they are cheap so the ufc can sign many of them. If they work out great, if they don't, then back to regionals they go. With the amount they are signing, it's guaranteed that some will work out and pay off the amount of busts they inevitably have to suffer as the track record so far has shown. It makes more financial sense to invest in prospects at their lowest level and bring them up compared to just buying up established fighters in their prime when their value highest and they can only be expected to regress after being signed (for example Michael Chandler). I do think Michael Chandler is a good signing but there's no way that most ufc signings will follow his mold.

I agree, its like building through the draft versus just signing free agents at their highest valuation. Most successful sports teams develop players rather than just buy up whoever is good.
