Thoughts on Henri Hooft?

Luke’s game plan to fight Romero was absolutely ridiculous. Stay at a distance and jab jab kick jab jab kick. Why did they think that was a good idea?

it seems strange to me that Luke trained with hooft for Romero when he had Cain, DC and Khabib at home. I literally cannot think of a team I would more rather have to train with when preparing to fight Romero. There’s no way AKA would have sent him into that fight with that same ridiculous game plan.

Because Cain is injured so often, DC doing TV etc.. I think they explained this at some point. And then something about comfort zones.

His plan really wasnt all that bad imo, he got alot of points from jabbing, and his offensive boxing was alot better. However as expected, Romero at any moment could rush forward and ko luke...and it happened...no circling to the side, no trying to get him down.

Rockhold had great kicks and it effed romeros leg up and he had to switch, he should had kept chugging at it so he´d be alot more immobile. And then he should probably had tried to take him down, despite his explosiveness or risk of a flying knee.

It always felt like romeor was super dangerous, while rockhold did damage but not really put romero in any danger at all. So they definitely should had done more, and should really had tried to get it to the ground...because sooner or later, you get hit..like like woodley vs thompson..but i guess they wanted to do some JJ vs Andrade styled fighting..just wont work in a 5th round fight. Sothey should had done more + improved his boxing defensive if they really planned to do that for 5 rounds

What was wrong with it...how was it so bad that it caused you to vomit up semen?

'A glancing calf muscle'

My work here is done

Fucking semen everywhere now man, you can help clean this shit up

I would assume due to his kickboxing background that he trains kickboxing striking more than true MMA striking and trust me, there’s a HUGE difference.

As the old saying goes, you fight the way you train. If you look at this training video which was from last summer, you'll see every bad habit that Luke has in training show up in his fights. Hands down, backing away in straight lines with his chin in the air, and admiring his own strikes.

There was a thread on the video in the striking forum, I correctly noted that someone with good pattern recognition like Romero would cream him.

Good call indeed.

There's been a lot of momentum behind Hooft for the last few years. Once upon a time, the Blackzillians couldn't be more complimentary of him as a stand up coach.

Now he's one of the head honchos st Hardknocks 365. However, I'm struggling to find examples of fighters whose stand-up games got noticeably better under his tutelage, Rockhold being no exception
Dutch kickboxing is shit for MMA.

Its fine for mma. You just need to know mma also.

Hooft is all right. But i think he works best with fighters who allready know the basics

These coach arguements are always hard for to me have an opinion on because there are so many variables to fighting mma that can hardly be blamed on just one coach..i believe he knows what he doing stand up wise and has improved fighters stand up but what they learn in the gym doesnt always translate on fight night..it takes time and alot of fighters are rotating gyms to often to benefit or are between multiple gyms per fight that there could conflicting advices or too much input from side or another for the fighter to pick from on fight night this is kinda evident in the rockhold /romero fight you can see henry in the cage giving advice and AKA head coach trying to give input from the outside of the cage who does luke listen to in these moments?..its good to work with different people but i think when your on your off season or not schedule to fight is when you explore other gyms..but come fight camp time..you should have a go to guys that you work with steadily and just carry the new info with you into camp

When I saw branch clinch him up against cage and 4-5 punch combo him in 1st round it seemed like he flash ko-ed him and then woke him up with next- combined with Bisping, I knew Luke Rockhold would become a cautionary tale of the MMA world.
Yup, doesn't matter how skilled you are if you go around with your hands low eating bombs to the dome......your gunna end up knocked out.

Possibly have a great career cut short due to being punch drunk. Concussions are no joke no matter how tough you are.
