Thoughts on a possible UFC 285 fallout scenario

What a weird thread. I think some people are being sarcastic and some people are being serious which is even more confusing when all the posts are mixed together.

TS looks to be serious so I'll just address him: don't think it'd be that big man. I say this as a guy who used to be a DC fan. There are things that stretch the ability to absorb a silly sales pitch... even amongst MMA fans who are pretty notorious for that. It'd be a guy in his 40s not fighting, not training, who retired off a loss against a guy who also retired off a loss, to come back and fight a guy he lost to twice... no, it definitely wouldn't be the biggest fight / anything comparable to Ali-Frazier. The only way it really makes sense to label that as a HW classic is if HW was seriously striving to replace WFW as the worst division of all-time considering such a low moment could seriously be considered so highly.

And as a DC fan, no... stay retired and commentating please.

DC spins the marketing as the last fight was overturned as a NC since Jones tested positive for turinabol and now they fight at HW.

Listen I am not saying this fight should happen for meritocracy reasons but if they did the fight it would sell well and I have no doubts UFC would do it in a heartbeat. It's one of the most marketable fights the UFC can put together at HW and they are looking for all the stops with Ngannou playing hard ball.

It sounds like a lot of people here would be much happier with the UFC if it just threw all rankings in the toilet instead of having fighters work their way to title shots.

I just want exciting fights.

As much as I'd like to see it, I was thinking the other day about how much Cain and DC would keep each other sharp.

DC has lost his biggest motivational training partner to Hollywood.

Dunno that we would get the same guy.

Even if he had Cain, Velasquez is very likely nowhere near the shape he needs to be in.

If he can find someone that really pushes him, it would be good.

Yeah, that's what I said. You don't want a meritorious sport where the best rise to the top.

Negatory shermano... the Hw Division is not settled right now so a alittle juicy super fight action thrown in wouldn't hurt a thing...

Im all for UFC treating MMA like a sport again....but cuz of the malarkey that is the HW division right now ...theres some room for such a storied fight...

People are talking about Jones, Stipe and DC fighting for the title again. They weren't even active in the sport until Jones fought Gane... tomorrow.

The UFC HW division is a mess because of bullshit UFC practices. I don't see how you can support those practices while also claiming you want to see MMA treated like a sport again.

DC is 43 and battle worn from the 2nd Jones fight and Stipe Trilogy. He’s not coming back.

Brother i hear u loud and clear...check my post history..

What we are experiencing is the remnants of the Conor Effect...

Im not suggesting this is how it should be run all the time...but given the mess that is the HW division there is opportunity for this fight to happen and its a legit grudge match with them having two great fights before...this is deeper then sport...

We are getting ahead of each other anyways as who knows if this would even take place...

This thread is for fun and trying to predict a wild outcome after Jones wins tomorrow...

Dont be so serious we are less then 24 hrs away from the biggest HW fight in UFC history...

Yes, I know I'm in the minority to be more excited at the thought of the UFC operating like a meritorious sport than I am excited to imagine it getting shittier and shittier.
