Though Fiziev beat Gaetjhe 29-28, or at least a draw?

It was really more than 2 min into Rd2 Gaethje (around 30 seconds after the eyepoke, but there was only one blocked BK by Fiziev, leg kick by G and a few punches that didn't land by Fiziev, mostly just moving/thinking) started having more success and winning more exchanges than Fiziev. He also landed better shots than anything Fiziev landed in the round and he did that in at least a couple of exchanges. So I would give it to Justin, but it was close. Not close enough to call it a draw I think, because those were some good shots and he was a little ahead on the numbers too, by the look of it.

Repost from the fight announcement thread!

R1 - Good first round I have no problem giving it to Fiziev he was just super fast with the combos and seemed like it was taking Gaethje a bit to get into the fight.

R2 - Pretty even exchanges until the accidental eyepoke at 3:35 Fiziev takes less than 30 seconds to say he is fine and ok to continue (so why the excuses later?) fight stat came up at 1:30 Head Strikes Justin 20 -11 Body Strikes Fiziev 26-8 Leg strikes Justin 6-1 I don't hink the body shots are really doing much damage Fiziev just trying to score points. Justin has landed the harder shots/combos up to this point. Really close round both guys staying in the pocket exchanging

R3 - Fiziev hurting Justin two times in the 30 seconds. Justin shoots for a single leg but fails lol Fiziev was landing some good knees in the clinch just prior. Two minutes into the third round Justin really starting to pick him apart Fiziev is fading. Lol and Justin gets he takedown at the end probably his only one in the UFC he didn't need it he just did it lol

Final Thoughts: Super close fight the only real clear round was round three Justin battered him for the last three minutes. Great fight to run back imho both guys get a chance to make a statement and under very different circumstances which makes it interesting. imho I am a lot more familiar with Gaethje's fights but man Fiziev was a Dawg in that fight,

First time I watched it as it happened live I didn't think much of it since there was some people over and I wasn't as dialed into the fight due to some distractions. I remember it being competitive, but the third round visuals with the blood on Fiziev's face made me assume it was the right decision.

Now the fight has been released on you tube and I decided to give it a rewatch.

Round 1

A competitive round, but Fiziev clearly landed more shots and got the better of the exchanges. Easy 10 - 9 Fiziev.

Round 2

Fiziev starts out strong again for the first few minutes, then Justin rakes his fingers across his eye. Fiziev doesn't take much time to recover and wants to keep fighting, but his eye is obviously bothering him a bit as he wipes at it as the fight goes on. The rest of the round is pretty even, but I thought Fiziev got off to a big enough lead through the first two minutes that he should have got that one too. A close 10 - 9 for Fiziev imo, but at worse an even 10-10 round.

Round 3

Another competitive round, Fiziev gets off to a decent start but clearly tapers off as the round goes on and Justin starts to land the jab over and over and bloodies up his other eye, ends the round with a takedown which I guess leaves a good impression by finishing stronger. This is probably the easiest round to score, but clearly nothing close to a 10 - 8, so really the only round Justin won in my opinion. 10 - 9 Justin.

In the end I had it 29 - 28 Fiziev in a fight that was very close, but I couldn't really argue if they scored it a draw, which one judge actually did which is why it was a majority decision.

So yeah, I'm certainly not gonna cry that it was a robbery, I know Justin is a sherbro darling so this take probably wont go over well, but I had Fiziev winning round 1 and probably round 2.

Anyway, really looking forward to the rematch, just hope Rafa is completely recovered from that terrible injury, should be another banger, would love to see a finish this time.

Here is the fight for those who wanna rewatch:

10-10 rounds don't exist.

Having another fight between these two is kind of disappointing to me. There last fight was not one of my favorite Justin Gaethje fights, and I would rather he fought someone different. There aren't that many Justin fights left, and this one was anti-climactic to me.

Thinking he'll get the job done this time around - justin is on the way out and prime to be on the receiving end of brutal stoppage again.

Sutherland gave Gaethje a 10-8 third round, dumbass. It's not hard to look up.
So how do UFC judges score some fights 30-29 dumbass?

Go see the Gian Villante vs Ovince St Proux scorecards, all 3 judges have 10-10 rounds.

Ah yes. A fight from 12 years ago with 2 judges who haven't scored a fight in 10+ years. That definitely proves your point.

I thought it was very close, so it could’ve gone to either of them. Fiziev was more active, but clearly was surprised how evasive fight Gaethje fought. I think he thought they’d meet in the middle and trade until someone went down. Gaethje fought smart and he’s not going to have that surprise advantage in the rematch.

29-28 either way. I’m betting on Fiziev whooping Gaethje’s ass in the rematch.

Competitive fight, but fuck the rematch
Why? Gaethje is on his way out already and the UFC doesn’t need to build him up. He’s a fan favorite and a very entertaining striker.

Fiziev is one of the most devastating strikers in the whole UFC. He still has potential and could go on a title run here. Two great MMA strikers, both ranked. I think it’s awesome!

Justin fought a guy way below him in the rankings he should get respect for that imho he's not like these rank squatting Ducks we have in the UFC now.

They all said no the only ones that accepted were Arman, Dustin and Raffy and Dustin has already been teasing a fight so it is likely against Arman. imho

I don't have much interest in this rematch, I'll watch but don't care who wins, just like the first time. I remember thinking JG did enough to win the first time, hopefully he retires if he can't beat this guy again.

I love how they showed the slowmo with the flying snot 3 times.

check out the flying snot, guys!
