Thompson keeps talking about Darren's low side kicks

its not illegal and it may not be used to intentionally fuck someones knees up, but they are dangerous and can fuck someones knee up so they should be banned. Its just my opinion, many will disagree.

Oh really? Didn't know that, I thought that after Jones started doing them it became illegal. Purposely targeting the knee is technically illegal in Muay Thai/kickboxing, but it's hard to really enforce because fights in general are so chaotic, so I figured it was the same in MMA.
They were illegal in California for a while.

Cliche :

a phrase or opinion that is overused and betrays a lack of original thought.

Maybe you should figure it out BUD
It's just not fair. I won't be a bully. It's ok bud just breathe and look at a thesaurus before you post. I almost feel bad, but I gave you a simple lesson and you are very welcome

It’s fighting. Anything can happen in a fight. People who want to take even more weapons away are clearly misguided.

Both Wonderboy and rampage already had bad knees but those kicks made it worse

All this "it is what it is" stuff is bullshit. The move is the kicking version of an eye poke. Anyone can do it, it takes zero skill, it greatly alters the competitiveness of the fight, and it directly leads to the most damaging / career ending injuries in athletics.

I don't blame fighters for abusing it, but it needs to be illegal.

It’s hard because if your using them correctly you time your opponent moving forward

Yeah and the attacker has to step outside the line of the kick and throw which is hard to time as well. Cause if the kick is inaccurate you could step outside right into it.

Agreed, I hate them. I look at them like heel hooks, they are legal but if you go for them it says a lot about you as a fighter

Which is funny you mention that because I find that be simply circling to the right makes it very hard for your opponent to kick across without leaving them self wide open

They're a fantastic way at keeping your opponent at distance, are they a little naughty? maybe, but this is a fight not ballroom dancing the whole idea is to hurt your opponent.

As long as they are legal, it's fair game. It's a legitimate technique that works.

I'll add this as a relevant anecdote, however: I know that the Finnish fighter Teemu Packalen has been out rehabbing/recovering for more than a year after his fight with Diakiese, his knee injury resulting from this:

Definitely doesn't take much to tear something, especially with a guy moving forward with his weight heavy on the front leg.

They’re not illegal in Muay Thai. You’re allowed to do it

Thompson comes across as a really nice guy, but his style is hard to enjoy for me personally.

I understand that he is a counter striker, but you have to set traps so as you can counter. You can’t just sit on the outside throwing 0 aggression, then expect to win bouts.

Conor is a counter striker, he uses his front kick and probing right hand to lure the opposition in, then slides the left over the top.

There’s a difference between being a counter striker and not fighting.

Fighters don't like it, but it's completely within the rules. I personally think it's bitch shit, but that's why I'm a fan.

Legal is legal this is what Wonderboy signed up for, he can go back to karate if mma rules don't work for him.

I agree, but wouldn't you also agree that bringing back ball grabs and strikes adds an exciting dynamic that's been missing from the sport lately?
