Because he is an active champion and wants the risky fights.

There are too many champions that are so active before they win the belt, yet as soon as they get the title, their activity DROPS and they go "on holiday" and don't defend their belts until they absolutely need to.

Pettis, Hendricks, Cain, Werdum, Aldo, Weidman, to name but a FEW. This can't just be "co-incidental".

People hate on McGregor because he says a few "naughty words", but you need to appreciate him. He's an exciting fighter and turns up to fight everytime. He is not resting on his laurels after the first taste of success.

If other champs got paid what the UFC gives McGregor, they'd be just as active.

If other champs brought in the revenue McGregor does, they'd be paid just as well.
If other champs got the same push from the promotion that Conor gets they could bring in the revenue.

Maybe the fanboyism and threads like this popping up all the time contribute to people being put off by him.

Give the man an Irish Coffee!

They are living life with blinders on. Good luck getting them to see things the way they are.

Yep. It's all the UFC's fault. They just don't want to make more money.

Bullshit, they would fight even less because they could afford not to fight.

We bitch about fighter pay, but fighters only get paid when they fight. How much did Cain actually earn as champion? You'd think the dude would have tried to make as much as he could when he had the chance.

McGregor is a driven person with goals. He's created everything he has. Other fighters should learn from him. Success comes from making shit happen.

It's Conor that just make the UFC push him with his entertaining fights, his wins and his media conference. Do you think UFC just wakes up in the morning and choses to promote a random boring and loser fighter?

It's the chicken and the egg situation.

You have to fight more, have more swag and attitude to get people more emotionally invested in your fights. If you spend 11 months of the year sitting in a hospital bed and not cutting promos, not generating any hype ... no-one is going to care about your fights.

Ppl should love him because he just made aldo 5 million dollars. Now the man can retire comfortably

Quoted for truth.

The UFC is the PROMOTION plain and simple. Look how much time, money and effort went into promoting Sage. If even half of that effort would have been put behind RDA or Lawler then yes, they would be bringing in big numbers.

I'm not sure why pointing out how a promotional company promoting upsets you so much.

Conor took what he wanted, he developed a personality that could allow him to do what he did and does. What are you gonna do, as a business, push people who cannot self promote? Like Aldo? You get what you take, UFC knows that and they won't give anybody a dime more then they absolutely must. The only reason why Conor, among the champs, gets special treatment is because he himself made it possible to make special requests. He promotes the ever-loving shit out of himself and the company and the fights. He works just as much out of the cage as he does in it, which is the new norm if you wanna get paid. Is it fair? Depends on how you look at it, but one thing is very clear - MMA is NOT a sport in the same vein as most other sports. It involves non-athletic performance almost to the same extent - at the highest level - as it does athletic performance. Conor just figured it out better than most active fighters...

They're basically squealing teenage girls and Conor is a boy band....

There is certain tactic behind marketing. There is no such thing as promoting a guy to the top without him having to do anything.
People like to bash wwe but they are learning it he hard way as well right now.
