... the most ever in the history of Judo. Teddy Riner.

Royce Gracie is a better grappler.. according to some

Everything is hated here

Fun fact is that Judo association itself in France really hates MMA and does everything possible to have it banned from lying, Sabotage at political level..etc.. They are like Sherdogs worst x 100.

Like people have said already, it's how much competition there is, why don't you post the stats of their top 5 opponent's.

Yes the guy is big lump of meat......and what's your point?

Wow he has loads of medals but how deep is the HW talent pool today in Judo........

Come to think about it, apart from some very top flight sports with large earning potential, there are no deep HW talent pools.

People need to realize he has close to 50lbs weight advantage over most opponents as there is no upwards limit in Judo HW and most others are at 240 best. For MMA he would need to cycle down in weight and loose this extreme advantage he is used to.

Well and there is USADA (regarding UFC). There is a bigger chance flat earthers win the nobel prize than Teddy Rhiner testing positive in France in Judo.

Judo Talent pool is ok nowadays but not at all comparable to Wrestling or boxing. In martial arts dominant countries like Iran, eastern europe, Russia, some parts of Asia..etc. Boxing and Wrestling is were the supreme talent in amateur sport goes.

Comparing Rhiner to Karelin while trying to picture Rhiner as some sort of supreme martial Artist is downright laughable.

What's their problem ?

Agreed, put him with a good powerlifting coach and he'd shatter his pr by the end of one session

Not really though, but in 4 weeks for sure. Every time you change your technique you lose a lot of strength due to having to learn new patterns but it will benefit you very soon. I've benched for a few years and just fixed my wrist positions to be more straight, lost a lot of strength initially but after a few weeks I already feel much better muscle activation in the forearms and my sets of 2-3 have become much more explosive. Initially it took a lot of weight off my sets though.

People hating on Judo is a thing? Didn't know that

Oh yeah, most definitely. BJJ, Wrestling and Sambo are the golden children of MMA, Judo is the outcast who talks funny and can't hold a fucking fork properly.

Great stuff. I love judo!

Are you saying the UFC have stricter testing than the Olympics?
Alot of people don't seem to know who or what USADA is. People were bashing USADA for being another useless govt run thing not to long ago.

He competed in the Olympics, so I'm sure if he can pass Olympic drug tests, he can pass USADA.

Russia would like to have a word with you...

lols at the ufc hw limit of 265. what a joke. this guy smokes stipe imo. wait. it can never happen.

heavyweight caps out at 266lbs dummy

daniel cormier would have this chump gassed out and choked out in 2 rounds, cormier would be waiting on his fried chicken before this boy woke up

Brock Lesnar couldn't, and he still became the champ.

Although I agree Brock didn't react great to being hit, I wouldn't say he was that bad in honesty. He took a monstering from Carwin and managed to survive until he gassed, then take him out- that's not a guy who can't take a hit. His instincts weren't great, since he hadn't been honing his ability to react to getting hit for decades, but his chin was definitely decent. Riner will be tough as nails- Judo is brutally tough and unforgiving- but the feeling of a punch on the jaw is another animal, and no proof Riner wouldn't just go out like a light.

You made a great point.

So if the balance of the level of competition stayed the same, then, what separates achievement now and back in the day is simply the number of achievements.

Therefore, winning 12 golds (today) is better than 5 golds (back in the days).

The only thing is, the balance of competition has to remain the same for that to remain true. The shallower the talent pool, the more an outlier stands out- once the talent pool becomes deeper, reaching and staying at the top will always be a bigger achievement. This is why the top female tennis players have 20+ grand slams, whereas probably the greatest male tennis player ever has only just hit 20 himself. His 20 are most definitely weighed higher than the female records though thanks to how much more competition he has to go through.

The more popular and competitive a sport, the harder a long period of dominance becomes- and that has to be weighted into any discussions about who is the greatest of any era.

If he can pass the tests and take a punch it's over
