This is how Khamzat is gonna be against Costa.

People are acting like Costa is the Aldo of MW with perfect TDD. They did that with Whittaker too. When guys fight 40 year old Yoel it's deceiving that you think they were able to stop such a high caliber wrestler, when he's really a power striker. It'll make sense eventually why Costa struggled with Rockhold and got ran over by Khamzat.

He is a former lightweight, that is a fact. He is also a legitimate welterweight, that is also a fact. People only bring up a fighters former weight class when they want to shit on another fighter. Gilbert can beat anybody in the welterweight division. He lost to Usman, but he showed that he could beat him and be champion.
Lmao no he can't. His resume is as bad as Colby's. He has a bunch of wins against 40 year old fighters. Arguably lost a decision to Kunchenko who is no longer with the UFC. His body just fell apart being Belal'd by Belal. He was finished by a jab against Usman, almost finished by a jab vs Khamzat. Now on the wrong side of 35.

Leon would play with him. Shavkat murders him. He was a contender for a bit but his time has gone. The division has moved past him.

People bring up the fact he was a lightweight to make fun of Khamzat because Khamzat is a 185er who calls out welterweights to fight him at 185 for a 170 title shot. He's a joke.

Just like Khamzat fans pretend Burns is some elite knockout artist who kills everybody else in the division when its very apparent that isn't the case. All to make Khamzat look better because he almost got planked by him. Gilbert a top 10, fringe top 5 guy in a thin division.

give me a name in ww division that you think is the best and I'll pick him apart like you picked apart Gilberts record

Paulo only has 1 submission win against a guy without a Wikipedia page. Khamzat is going to be wrestling the entire fight.

I just said welterweight is a thin division. All the top guys have pretty shit resumes but the difference is the other top ranked guys have all beaten somebody of note that isn't 40 and on a losing streak. Besides Colby and Burns.

I hate that Khamzat fanboys make it seem like I'm shitting on Burns because I actually like him, but I'm not going to pretend he's some elite striker and knockout merchant who decimates 170 when he is nothing of the sort. The only guy he has mauled on the feet who isn't an old man is Khamzat.

alright give me the best mma fighter who has ever stepped foot on this earth and I'll pick him apart like you picked apart Burns

my point is, how you picked apart Burns, you can do with ANY fighter on the planet if you view through the lens you choose to view it through

No you can't. Name another fighter that exclusively beat a bunch of 40 year olds at a weightclass? Colby, that's about it.

The only fighters Gilbert has fought at 170 who weren't on the wrong side of 40 were Kunchenko, who as I said, arguably got robbed. Magny, who is a gatekeeper to the top 15 and loses to anyone with a bjj blackbelt. Usman who finished him with a jab, Khamzat who scraped by him, and Belal who handled him with no issues whatsoever.

His record at 170 if you take out 40 year olds is 2-3 but should probably be 1-4.

You are upset that your hero got planked by a guy with a mediocre resume at the weightclass.

This one is going to be guaranteed mayhem.. Really forward to it.

I'm slightly leaning Chimaev. Costa Doesn't seem to have that big stage presence. he looked so outclassed against Izzy and looked like the lights were too bright.. Didn't elevate his game against the elite and just got rolled. Also got beat by Vettori who is as basic as they come

Chimaev is still kind of unknown against the real elite guys but Costa isn't elite anyway.. wish the odds were more even would put some $ on Khamzat

who gives a shit if they don't fit into the category of "fought guys older than 40"

the point here is to show how easy it is to dismiss someone based on their record

in this case, with Burns, you chose to point toward the age of his opponents

great, that's one way to do it, there's a million other ways to do it as well

I'm sure I'll find you in another thread in the future dismissing someone else record by using a different set of circumstances pertaining to said fighter

From what I’ve seen, If Chimaev fights like a bar bum then he’s getting ktfo. If he fights smart like vs Holland, he probably wins without much effort. Chimaev’s fight iq and Costa’s tdd are the biggest questions here.

Could go either way, but my money's on Costa putting Khamzat down - and out.

Plus for our viewing pleasure, Paulo's new hair has him looking rather studlee.

  • It will be interesting to see Kham against a real MW that isn't a can. I'm guessing he will struggle badly. No, Burns does not have more dangerous striking than Costa, don't know why anyone is saying that.

costa < vettori < whittaker < court mcgee < sean strickland < ponzi < kevin holland < khamzat chimaev

costa < khamzat

The difference is Rumble was never a welterweight. He used to kill himself getting down to that weight and couldn't make the weight reliably, much like Khamzat at 170 but even worse. He even missed weight for the weightlclass above.

Gilbert was not that at 155. He was a bigger guy at the weightclass but not a giant or a guy that was significantly bigger than all of his opponents. Whereas at 170 he's been significantly smaller than everybody he's fought.

I wouldn't put too much stock in his power because he rocked Usman. Usman's chin is shit. He was rocked multiple times by Colby across both their fights and Colby can't bust a grape.
So you reject all evidence against your argument and accept all evidence for your argument...great logic

Rumble got strangled by a WW. Imagine what Phil Davis, Bader, Gus, Glover, Arlovski ect will do to him

Now imagine how bad former LW Gilbert Burns would destroy Costa at 170 lbs......

Good post. Everyone throwing out the "former lightweight" thing with Burns is mouth breathing. Burns isn't a KO artist at any weight, but that doesn't preclude you from catching someone at the right angle or the right timing. We also don't really know much about Khamzat's chin yet -- which I think will be better at 185 than 170 where he's more dehydrated and taxed from cutting an additional 15 lbs.
