man the country behaved very badly during that. The amount of people that remained logical, respectful and compassionate was fucking small.
It was a very disappointing time. Power trippers, fear mongers, bullies and fools thrived.
 
I'll be in Brisbane in a few weeks so I'll see how accurate some of this.

Family member down there posted on Facebook: "Pool day interrupted when [3rd most venomous snake in the world] got into the garden. We got the dogs inside and called the man from the city who came and carried it off to be released." I was at a loss until I remembered that people occasionally shoot at each other a block from my house and I live in a fairly nice place.

Fucking Aussies were good cunts. I literally had people let me stay in their homes on a few occasions, got invited to a couple house parties and they showed me around town and show me stuff that tourists wouldn't know about.

Good people. Funny accent. Good natured kind hearted cunts though.

That's so fucking stupid... just about none of the current Australians are descended from the original prisoners.

They were nearly all men, had no wives and the officials/guards would never let their daughters marry or have children with filthy prisoners. Having no-one to breed with, the original prisoners died out.

My point was that I've heard the same stupid thing over and over but even a moment of cursory thinking on the subject would prove that it's really stupid. There's lists of all the prisoners, details of their lives and MOST of them died alone or were sent back to England after their sentence was up.

It's a penal colony, the prisoners were shipped there to work building the new colony. They were still prisoners.

My ancestors were a bunch of drunken Irish that arrived about a century later.

Many served their sentences and became free men and had families.

Female convicts were also having babies.

Of course the bulk of the country is not largely descended from them and came later as free men.
