This guy is the future of the HW division

I remember a thread like this 10 years ago. The prospects name was Shane Carwin

So you are saying this guy will be a future Interim UFC Champion, only lose twice in his career and headline multiple UFC PPVs?

Not a bad future...

Aspinall also started fighting as an amateur at 16 years old. I can't recall a heavyweight in recent times who has started that early.

Didn't Tai Tuivasa fight before he was 18 ?

Kid looks like a good prospect, but i have my doubts he is 6'5.

yes yes camera angles, but he looks the same size as goodard who looks a couple inches shorter than Vera.

He's probably doing a height cut to make the HW limit.

Extremely powerful! Hopefully he's clean and gets his ass to the ufc

Looks promising. Great instincts. Punching power and went for a heel hook. Should definitely move to the US to train.

Why the hell hasn't the ufc signed this guy? He has huge potential. He's from the UK. A market the ufc wants to grab and they aren't gonna do it with mediocre fighters like Bisping and Hardy. Dana sign him

He's 2-0 that's why, he looks promising but the heavyweight scene outside of the UFC is full of cans, look at what happened to Potts for example or Josh Copeland, they both had good records but got destroyed in the UFC, especially Ruan.

He's way way too raw still. 2-0 and 20 years old is too early for a UFC run at HW, they'd be setting him up for unnecessary losses. Give him a couple years and he'll be ready to go.

guy looks legit, as shallow as the division is any bigger organization should sign him to test him out. I look forward to seeing how he does in the future

I came into this thread expecting to be disappointed. Serious power in his hands and his grappling looks very good as well.

Will be keeping an eye on the kid, will be interesting to see what he can do when he steps up in competition.

It's a very, very thin division and this kid is young with talent. Good chance we see him get to the big show and see what he can do.

Needs to get to maybe 7-0 or so before they throw him into the big leagues, no reason to rush, he's only 20 - give him 2years.

Let the guy get more cage time but the kid has some tools. Decent BJJ for the heavyweight division and very natural power. Because that division is shallow, if he keeps plugging away, he can go far even with some weaknesses. I'm just usually worried about (some) UK fighters and the lack of wrestling. That would hamper him from getting to the very top. But at his age and athletic build, I bet we see him in the UFC in a few years.

Nice little interview here: http://knucklepit.com/tom-aspinall/

"Standing 6’5”, Tom Aspinall’s credentials include a 2-0 Thai boxing record, BJJ brown belt, British No-Gi Grappling Championship title, two-times British BJJ Championship title, and only allowed one of his many undefeated amateur bouts to make it out of the first round."

He is, allegedly, 6'5" and 115 kg (254 lbs). He was 9-0 as an amateur and 1-0 as a pro as the time of the interview, and went on to win the bout against Ricky King he talks about prepping for. (Sherdog is missing three ammy fights.)

He's stepped into the cage eleven times already, and twice in the Muay Thai ring.

Cain Velasquez has fought fourteen times total. He debuted in the UFC at 2-0.

So, I don't think Aspinall taking a step up in competition at this juncture is likely to derail him...

So he is going to be a HW champ and only compile two losses to former champs and headline many events? Pretty good future.

Looks like Tom will be fighting Satish Jha at BAMMA 19. Word is not many people want to face him, even this early in his career.
