So I have a macbook pro. I love it, but obviously apple shit is overpriced, I know that.

I'd like to get another macbook (air or pro), but I don't really feel paying out the ass again for below high end specs.

I haven't had a PC in years. Any advice on what kind of laptop to get? Any good ones that you can customize when you buy (memory, RAM, screen size, etc?)

All I usually need a computer for is internet, word processing, itunes, netflix, and similar things.

UPDATE:

Some laptops I was looking at today:

Ha! I bought a Lenovo Z565 not long ago and added some more memory. I like it.

It's probably a year old or so, whch means it's terribly outdated.

I'm actually impressed overall with the Lenovo.

Probably won't fit your needs, but this is hands down the best laptop I have ever used let alone owned.

Edit: I got it for 799 right before Christmas. Looks like the price jumped a bit.

Did I mention that these days I don't use my laptop for anything other then the internet and word processing?:icon_chee

Then if you are looking for ultra portable extremely fast computer this is for you.

Start up takes 9 seconds. As in the computer can be off and within 9 seconds I can hit the Firefox button and be browsing.

Id wait though. I got it for 799. Its jumped 200 bucks.

go to the following website and post the question in the following forum. Also check out each brand's forum as you'll find the benefits and drawbacks on each model from people that have actually own them. Good luck.

you can get a decent asus ultrabook for about $550. i5 processor, 6gb ram, ssd.

that sounds legit. have any personal experience with them?

some guys i used to work with had older model asus laptops, and they swore by them. i haven't bought a laptop in years, but i'm thinking about getting one and that's the one i've been eyeing. just waiting for it to hit the right price since they're coming out with all of those half laptops-half tablets, i'm guessing it might drop a little more.
