I did Muay Thai for a long time, but am choosing Pro Boxing as my career just because of the better and more solid financial opportunities. Even if I fought Muay Thai Pro I'd be more of a Boxer anyhow. A guy I trained with told me I was one of the only Martial Artists who kicks as hard as anyone, but hits with his hands harder than he kicks. So I think Boxing is the best choice to exploit that.

Good sound reasoning there, what weight you thinking of competing at?

Boomstick (who any of you regulars here knows) and his trainer at the time recommended I get down to 154, being 5'10" and having quick hands it will insure I'd also be bigger and naturally stronger than most of the guys at that weight. But I haven't been that light since I was 10 years-old. So I'm thinking more around 160. I weigh 165 now so that's very do-able. Plus I don't want to be known as a weight-cheat who picks on midgets. lol

LOL, I am 6ft and reckon I can get to 140 (probably 144 now) for MT. I have pretty low BF (and I aint been training for 7months) and a little bit of water and I should easily make it.

I worry about being weak at the weight, but more about the clinch and stamina as I can still hit very hard. I might go to 147 if it proves a problem.

TBH though im just glad I think its an option given that a few months ago I thought I was finished because I could barely walk and it was not showing any signs of improvement.

6 ft at 140 is a physical anomile. Especially in Muay Thai, if you used your reach advantage well and perfected kneeing in the clinch you'd be practically unstoppable. I can see how it'd be tough to be strong though, shorter stockier guys are always going to have a bit of a power advantage, you just have to make it impossible for them to get inside. I'd work on hand-speed and extensive combinations. Like if you watch the HL video I did of Benny Urquidez, one thing that made him a NIGHTMARE to fight is when he started chaining together punches and kicks he wouldn't stop until you fell. If you could get that kind of conditioning guys will fucking HATE fighting you. Because you're tall, long, and you never stop throwing.

When sparring against shorter (and usually heavier) oponents I practice the Pony walk a lot, my knees and Teep are pretty hard, but Im still awkward (IMO) in the clinch itself.

Still we live and learn.

In the Clinch thread I did I address how to not be muscled around if you're the taller guy. Getting teeped by you must suck balls because it would seem like it came from 9 feet away, lol. One of my favorite combinations if I was bigger than a guy was to teep and then step-through and follow-up with as hard an elbow as I could. Especially if he was on the ropes. If you can perfect that and keep balance it'll bust right through his defense as well.

LOL yeah, my teep frustrates a lot of the shorter guys, getting past it requires very fast lateral movement, or very quick hands to grab (hard as I dont leave em hanging).

I hope you also blast your kicks as hard as humanly possible. Your range of motion with long legs should make your kicks absolutely murderous. Like Remy. A couple of kick combinations land and your opponents should be carried out on a stretcher.

Its pretty hard on the pads, but in sparring we only go 1/2 power legs, 3/4 power hands. No helmets.

When the pros have fights coming they spar full hands and 1/2 legs with helmets.
